The formation of three cyclones put the coast of the South and Southeast regions on alert for strong winds and sea surf starting this Friday (13). The Navy issued a warning for waves up to 2.5 meters in the coastal strips of the states of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro between the afternoon of this Friday and the night of Sunday (15).
The rough sea is due to a first strong cyclone that formed in the ocean and is expected to leave by Sunday. However, a second cyclone that is already starting to form on the Argentine coast will reach the Brazilian coast and should merge with a third, which is forming on the south coast of São Paulo.
“It is a complex event, there are some uncertainties caused by the interaction between these cyclones. Anyway, the most important thing is to understand the conduction of cold air to the entire region of the south and southeast coasts”, says Franco Nadal Villela, meteorologist at Inmet (National Institute of Meteorology).
In the Southeast, the region affected by the cyclone, already in full swing, goes from the north of Ilhabela, in São Paulo, to the south of Cabo Frio, in Rio de Janeiro. In the south of the country, the hangover should reach beaches that go from the border between Uruguay and Brazil, in Rio Grande do Sul, to Laguna, in Santa Catarina, according to information from Climatempo.
Next week, the interaction between the second and third cyclones should produce coastal winds with speeds above 70 km/h in the southern region, especially on the coast of Rio Grande do Sul, according to Villela. The interaction of cyclones should arrive in São Paulo on Sunday.
