Thessaloniki: 6 years in prison for the man who killed his aunt’s partner because he was violent towards her

A 36-year-old man was sentenced to six years in prison, who sat on the bench of the Mixed Jury Court of Thessaloniki, accused of the death of a 28-year-old from Pakistan, near the Roma settlement of St. Raphael Serres, after a fight between them. The reason is said to be the violent behavior of the foreigner towards the 46-year-old aunt of the accused, with whom the victim had a relationship, having also had a child.

The 36-year-old was judged guilty of manslaughter intentionally, in excess of the limits of legal defense. The Court recognized his mitigation and decided to release him until the Court of Appeals, on condition that he appear at a police station in his place of residence.

According to the case file, the crime was committed on May 21, 2021, while the victim had been sentenced, a few hours earlier, by the Serres Criminal Court (with a suspended sentence) for domestic violence against his 46-year-old partner. As the young foreigner allegedly returned home in an aggressive mood, the 36-year-old was called to the area.

As the accused apologized, he met the victim outside the settlement and before he got out of his car he was attacked with a wooden pole, because he considered him guilty who was confronted with Justice. During the fight that followed, the accused allegedly managed to hit the foreigner hard on the head with the pole, which resulted in his death after several days of hospitalization.

“I did not intend to hurt him. It was a bad moment, I was on the defensive “, he stated -among other things- in his apology, emphasizing that after the incident he himself transported the victim to the hospital of Serres. His 33-year-old brother was also charged in the same case, but the court acquitted him, as he accepted that he was not present at the incident.
