The development perspective of the country and the new large investments that are coming to the hotel industry but also to the urgent need to preserve the unique natural beauty of Greece was mentioned by Minister of Tourism Vassilis Kikilias speaking this morning at Annual Assembly of the Panhellenic Hoteliers Federation (POX).
Mr. Kikilias addressing Greek hoteliers stressed that the government embraces investment, but the primary concern is the protection of the unique tourist product of the country and the special experience it offers to its visitors, which, as he clarified, will not be altered in any of the cases under any investment. “So do not forget in your investments, soon and by Law ladies and gentlemen, that the reason why all these people from all over the world come to Greece is to experience this unique experience of the beauty of our country, of the picturesqueness, of tradition, enriched of course with new elements. With a development perspective yes, but with this uniqueness. You owe it to us to defend it. “For our children, for our grandchildren, for the next generations,” he said characteristically.
The Minister made special reference to the successful management of the pandemic that resulted the rebranding of the country. As he pointed out, if the scenario that prevailed two years ago that “we will become Bergamo” and the country had collapsed became a reality, even to a certain extent, then we would not be talking about tourism, not in 2020, 2021 and this year, but also many more years, since our country would have suffered the utter disrepute and destruction.
When asked if Greece manages to have tourism this year the spectacular results of 2019, Mr. Kikilias stressed that any comparison is groundless, as this year we are still living in a pandemic regime, we are facing a huge energy crisis and we have a war raging in the heart of Europe. “Does that mean we will not do well or we may do better etc?” I think we will do very well. However, any predictions should be made in the light that every week, any political decision taken at European or global level, by NATO, by Russia can change the data. Therefore, it is a year of battle and a huge effort that obviously if we do it all together will give much better results “, concluded the Minister of Tourism.
