THE General Secretary of Anti-Crime Policy, Mr. Konstantinos Papathanassiouand President of the Addiction Treatment Center (KETHEA), Mr. Christos Liapissigned today, 19 May 2022, memorandum of cooperation in order to design and implement a comprehensive program for the prevention and treatment of drug addiction within the Detention Centers of the Country.
The Memorandum aims at the expansion of the operation of Counseling Support units for Prisoners of the Therapeutic Programs of KETHEA. in all Detention Centers of the Country, in order to inform the detainees about the addiction and its treatment, to reduce the harm related to the use of substances, and to prepare for joining a Therapeutic Community inside, and then outside, prison .
It is reminded that KETHEA already provides detoxification and social reintegration services in 22 Detention Centers and at the Volos Juvenile Education Institution.
On the occasion of the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation, Mr. Papathanassiou made the following statement:
“The fight against the phenomenon of addictions is ongoing. We are intensifying our actions in collaboration with KETHEA, to combat the scourge of drugs, reduce demand and the impact of their use on health, with final recipients not only the beneficiary detainee users but society as a whole. “
