Thessaloniki: Two years in prison and a fine for a young man for revenge porn

by

Three fake profiles in the name of his ex-partner, through which he uploaded personal and sensitive photos of her, were created by a young Spaniard who was tried today in the Three-Member Criminal Court of Thessaloniki accused of revenge pornography and sentenced to 2 years in prison and a fine of 20,000.

The case came to justice after a complaint by a 27-year-old Greek woman, who described to the Criminal Court what she experienced after her separation. As the young woman testified, she was notified by her friends, when they saw “stories” “uploading” with photos of her. She added that there were many Internet users who, believing that the profiles were real, commented on them unfavorably and mockingly.

The judges found the accused guilty of violating sensitive personal data and although they accepted that the complainant was harmed, they did not accept the request of the civil suit to turn the act into a felony and therefore to be examined by a higher Court.

They decided to grant suspensory power to the execution of the sentence until the Court of Appeal. The accused did not attend the trial and was tried by attorneys.
