Clever people deceive people using the data of the secretary general. Public Order

by

The headquarters of ELAS draws the attention of the citizens as the efforts continue in order to deceive unsuspecting citizens by using the data of the general secretary of Public Order, Konstantinos Tsouvalas.

The last time has been identified systematic attempt at deception with relevant text messages, using the data of Mr. Tsouvalas. In fact, ELAS issued two relevant press releases last month in an effort to inform the public.

Yesterday, the experts, again using the data of Mr. Tsouvalas, in a letter with the logo of the Greek Police and data of the Ministry of Citizen Protection, tried to deceive an internet user, on the pretext that he is under investigation for alleged pornography and other offenses.

It is noted that the perpetrators, in order for the message to be fully believable, urged the recipient of the message to send relevant explanations to an e-mail address, which they had created using the name of the general secretary.

According to the ELAS headquarters, the text-message that is circulated via e-mail (email), as a supposed letter of the Secretary General, which bears his name but with a different capacity or wrong spelling (Tsouvilas, officer, Greek police officer for protection children in cooperation with EUROPOL), is clearly false and deceptive and is sent by perpetrators who are obviously trying to deceive the citizens, thus gaining an illegal financial benefit.

Citizens should delete these messages and “do not open” the attachments, to avoid being attacked by malware.

It is reminded that more tips for avoiding deception of citizens are posted on the website of the Hellenic Police (www.hellenicpolice.gr), in the section “Citizen’s guide / Useful tips”, while additional information and tips for electronic fraud cases are available on the website of the Prosecution Directorate Cybercrime www.cyberalert.gr.
