The Turkish president insists on the challenges until “more than one of the Synod”. The argument of Athens.
By Penelope Galliou
A few hours now separate the Greek Prime Minister and the Turkish President from their first meeting, in Madrid, after the provocative escalation of Turkey in the last two months against our country. The two leaders will sit at the same table at the dinner given tonight (at 9.30 pm Greek time) by the Spanish King Philip to the NATO leaders, without expecting any communication, as after the “Mitsotakis yoke” of Tayyip Erdogan, the Turk the president was the one who chose to cut off all channels of communication. Moreover, the climate that has been created lately, foreshadows a possible new aggressive behavior of the Turkish president against Greece, if the information circulated by Ankara, about a new challenge to the sovereignty of the Greek islands before the allies at the NATO Summit, and on Thursday.
Under these circumstances, the Greek side insists on stating that it clearly does not go to the Summit “with the belt untied for a quarrel” but at the same time clarifies that it is determined “not to leave anything unanswered”.
The unshakable evidence against the Turkish challenges
After repeated meetings and communications with the competent Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defense, who will accompany the Greek Prime Minister to the NATO Summit but also always based on the principles of International Law and International Legality, Kyriakos Mitsotakis goes to , with the certainty of the law against the idiots and unhistorical constructions of Ankara that can stand with nothing against the International Treaties and the International Law, as commented by government sources.
After all, the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have already made a coordinated presentation of the Greek positions and arguments to many of the leaders who will attend the NATO Summit, while they are fully prepared with all those elements that refute all Turkish non-existent arguments.
According to information, the Greek side, for the eventuality caused by the Turkish side, has prepared a complete file containing the map of the “Blue Homeland” exposing the Turkish revisionism in all its glory and highlighting the aggressive attitude of Turkey, but also evidence for the overflights of Turkish aircraft over inhabited Greek islands in the Aegean, as well as Alexandroupolis, which is also a strong NATO base.
Athens’ argument includes the threat of casus belli from Turkey, as well as the existence of the “Aegean army” on the coasts of Asia Minor, which is not even part of NATO planning and is a threat to Greece. Arguments and facts proving the Turkish revisionism, which Athens promotes and internationalizes at every opportunity, noting the tensions and instability it causes, at such a critical juncture in NATO’s southeastern wing while at the same time paralleling Ankara’s revisionism with and its expansionist invasion of Ukraine.
Strengthening the Greek argument is the attitude of Turkey towards Russia, as commented by government sources, as it is the only NATO country that has not imposed sanctions on Moscow and insists on maintaining the role of cautious neutral.
In any case and in all tones, Athens emphasizes that it will not play the game of rhetorical tension, as well as that in no case will it take a step back in defense of national sovereignty and its sovereign rights.
Erdogan insists on “up to one” challenges
Their new threats against Greece, just a few hours before the meeting of the allies, talking again about Turkey’s rights in the Aegean and the East, can be considered indicative but not evidence of the stance that Tayyip Erdogan will take at the NATO Summit. Mediterranean and saying that “We will take all necessary measures to protect our rights in the Mediterranean and the Aegean.” He also announced new drillings, saying that “With its four boreholes and its two seismographs, Turkey is determined to continue its activities in the Black Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean without any interruption.”
The question that remains to be answered at the NATO Summit is whether Tayyip Erdogan includes his challenges and threats against Greece in the general “bargain” he has with the West and the other NATO allies, or whether it is an autonomous issue that has it. is it part of his internal election agenda in order to strengthen his nationalist identity and possibly contain his political collapse?
