In his statement, Kyriakos Mitsotakis highlighted the importance of the fact that Alliance He showed unity, speed and determination in dealing with the Russian invasion of Ukraine and stressed the need to continue in this direction.

Mr. Mitsotakis underlined that the sanctions decided to be applied by all members are very crucial for substantive and symbolic reasons, reiterated that Greece stood by Ukraine from the very beginning and pointed out that the Russian invasion has made it clear that the NATO’s mission to defend the territorial integrity of human rights and international law is no longer a blank slate.

The Prime Minister also referred to the progress around the accession of Finland and Sweden to the Alliance and expressed his satisfaction that any difficulties have been overcome.

On the sidelines of the NATO Summit, the Prime Minister met with his British counterpart Boris Johnson, with whom he recently had a telephone conversation, and, according to government sources, the meeting highlighted the prospects for deepening bilateral cooperation and identified priority areas. trade, shipping, energy, digital technology, innovative technologies, defense and tourism.

On the issue of food security, the Prime Minister stressed the readiness of both the Greek fleet and Greek ports to play a key role in transporting Ukrainian grain to international markets.

The Prime Minister also had a meeting with his Swedish counterpart, Magdalena Anderssonin which he expressed his full support for the accession of Sweden and Finland to the Alliance, expressing his satisfaction with the recent developments.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis also met with his Canadian counterpart Justin Trudeau. In a very friendly atmosphere, the two leaders discussed issues of cooperation between the two countries, which this year marks 80 years of official diplomatic relations. Special mention was made of the dynamic Greek community in Canada, which is a living and uninterrupted link between the two countries, as well as the ever-expanding economic and trade cooperation.

The Prime Minister also had four meetings with his newly elected Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese. During this first meeting after Mr Albanese took office, the two leaders had the opportunity to reaffirm the traditionally excellent level of Greek-Australian bilateral relations and to give a brief overview of their full range. Particular emphasis was placed on strengthening bilateral economic cooperation and attracting investment.
