By a joint ministerial decision of the Minister of Citizen Protection and the Minister of Finance, the limit for payment for the night hours of police officers is increased
The Minister of Citizen Protection, Takis Theodorikakos, was hosted today on the morning news show “Society hour Mega”. Speaking to Iordanis Hasapopoulos and Anthi Voulgaris, he referred to the daily battle fought by the Police to fight crime, the increase in the nightly pay of police officers, the recognition of the dangerousness of the profession, the shielding of the borders to repel illegal immigration flows and the efforts being made to upgrade police training.
The main points of the interview of the Minister of Citizen Protection:
In 64 hours out of 48 the night pay of the police officers
By joint ministerial decision of the Minister of Citizen Protection and the Minister of Finance, the limit for payment for the night hours of police officers is increased. “Therefore, our police officers will not have a limit of 48 hours per month, as they had until now, but 64. Why do our police officers work these hours. It was a fair request, like others we have resolved during my tenure at the Ministry of Citizen Protection“, emphasized Mr. Theodorikakos.
Recognition of the dangerousness of the profession
“The police profession is without any doubt a dangerous profession. We have proceeded together with the Ministry of Finance, in collaboration with the police unions, in the process of drawing up a study, in order to see in the coming years what can be done to officially recognize the profession of the police as dangerous».
2,500 police officers operate daily in the neighborhoods of Athens
“Every day, 2,500 police officers, from all services of the Greek Police, are on the streets, next to all citizens, in the neighborhoods, in order to strengthen the feeling of security. The Greek Police does its job in the best possible way, based on the difficult conditions it has to face. It responds effectively to every form of crime and this was also seen last Saturday in Patisia. That is why I express my satisfaction once again for the way these two lads of the Hellenic Police reacted, for the way EL.AS as a whole reacted. It is important that those who are dead are thugs, they are criminals and they are not our police officers».
Upgrading police training
“We are improving the training of police officers and empowering them with the right tools and infrastructure to do their job more effectively. And this has been seen: From September 1 to June 30, crime has decreased by 30% compared to the time before the coronavirus quarantine. These are undoubtedly statistics and data and are the result of an organized and consistent effort made by all of us».
Every day we prevent the entry of 1,000 illegal immigrants
“The threat to Evros is daily. About 1,000 illegal immigrants try to enter Greece illegally from the Evros every day. The Greek Police is there, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. To give you a complete picture, only in the first 6 months of the current year, 2022, there have been 90,000 interceptions of illegal immigrants attempting to enter Greece. This is a huge number. The Police guards the border in a strong and efficient manner. In the first 6 months alone, throughout the country, there are 500 arrests, more than 500 arrests of illegal traffickers. Traffickers who traffic in human life committing a crime. We are not going to stop, we will continue this action along with the serious control for the illegal immigrants that exist in the Attica basin. In the last 6 months, the Police have made over 1,500 arrests, here in the center of Athens, while a total of 9,000 illegal immigrants have returned to their homelands in the last 1.5 years. It is, therefore, an overall intervention, an organized intervention by the Greek Police, in order to deal effectively with the problem of illegal immigration».
