Saluting the “struggles” given in the past for democracy by the Ikarians and the exiles on the island, Mr. Tsipras underlined that “our society is different, fortunately, today”.
Alexis Tsipras expressed his “excitement” at being on the “red island of the stone age” in Ikaria, starting his speech at the port of Evdilos.
Hailing the “struggles” given in the past for democracy by the Ikarians and the exiles on the island, he underlined that “our society is different, fortunately, today”.
“And this is thanks to the struggles of the democratic people, of the Left, of all those who opposed juntas and terrorism, electoral coups and violence, to illuminate the homeland with the light of democracy,” he said characteristically, stressing, however, that “despite everything therefore, the political and social confrontation between progress and maintenance, between the faction of social protection and that of private interests, the faction of patriotic responsibility and that of selfish nationalism, is permanent, continues and evolves under different conditions of course”.
He referred, specifically, to the exit from the memorandums for which, as he said, “they gave and continue to fight to slander”, although “they handed over a country plundered by a humanitarian crisis, with empty coffers and obligations of 21 billion euros a year to creditors “.
“And we left the country out of the memorandums, with consecutive quarters of growth, with 37 billion security in the coffers and the debt settled. And they have the audacity to point the finger at us”, he noted and continued with references to the Prespa Agreement, which while he “secured our national interests”, “together with the extreme right” they were accused of being “traitors” and in the war in Ukraine, placing “personal responsibility” on the prime minister who “exercises an IX foreign policy”.
