The minister notes that the neighbor’s rhetoric is intertwined with the looming polarization inside Turkey ahead of the 2023 elections.

Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias expressed his hope that after the elections in Turkey, regardless of the outcome, the necessary conditions could prevail that would allow Greek-Turkish relations to improve to a significant extent in an interview with Sunday’s daily newspaper.
The minister notes that the neighbor’s rhetoric is intertwined with the looming polarization inside Turkey ahead of the 2023 elections.
He even adds that the Turkish provocation exceeds not only the rules of international law but also the very limits of logic.

However, Mr. Dendias emphasizes that the problems in Greek-Turkish relations cannot magically disappear even if the president of the neighboring country changes in 2023.
He explains that the issue is not the president, the issue has never been personal, and warns that the rise of nationalism risks spilling over into Turkish society. However, he emphasizes, a large part of Turkish society looks forward to a European future.

Referring to the relations with Russia, he emphasizes that breaking them is not a Greek choice.
He notes that Greece’s position was and remains clear, we do not discount the principles on which we have built our policy and so do all the member states.
As the minister says, we recognize that there is a heavy price for politics, the price I will be paying would have been heavier if we had not adhered to this attitude of principle.
