China’s C919 passenger jet, which aspires to compete with the Boeing 737 MAX and Airbus A320neo, is close to securing certification as the phase of test flights has been completed, aeronautical company COMAC has announced.
According to a post by the Chinese aerospace company on social media, test flights with the six aircraft it used have been completed as the program enters the final stages of securing certification from the Civil Aviation Administration of China, which is required for commercial operations.
This development marks a milestone in China’s ambitions to spread its wings in the aerospace industry.
The airline that will be the first to acquire the aircraft is state-owned China Eastern Airlines, which ordered five in March 2021. According to the Chanjiang Daily, the first C919 aircraft is expected to be delivered to China Eastern Airilines in August.
