Greece has one of the strictest frameworks for legal affiliations, the Minister of State emphasized in the Institutions and Transparency Committee for the case of Nikos Androulakis – Kastanidis, representing Androulakis, confused ADAE Rammos with Kontoleon and attacked him for EYP

The Greek government has never procured illegal surveillance software and there is neither directly nor indirectly such a contract, Minister of State Giorgos Gerapetritis reportedly clarified on behalf of the government in Institutions and Transparency Committee of the Parliament where the complaint about an attempt to monitor the cell phone of the president of PASOK – KINAL was discussed Nikos Androulakis.

At the Committee, for which Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis yesterday asked the Speaker of the Parliament Costas Tassoulas to meet immediately to investigate the Androulakis complaint, Mr. Gerapetritis reportedly emphasized that Greece has one of the strictest frameworks for legal connections , while disclosure is not made in cases where there is a legal connection for reasons of national security, as is the case in all countries around the world and was mentioned in cases of hybrid warfare or in cases of espionage on behalf of the neighbor.

Answering his question Harry Kastanidis from PASOK-KINAL on whether there is an EYP contract with a Krikel company, he mentioned that this particular company did not sign anything with the current government, but in 2018 under SYRIZA and with the signature of Mr. Toska.

The Minister of Digital Policy Kyriakos Pierrakakis also took the floor, who according to information presented a map of 2018 for the presence of illegal software in the Facebook report, which lists seven illegal software, but also a European Parliament report that records attempts against five ministers and the prime minister, attempt on European Council President Charles Michel and 300 Pegasus cases in Hungary.

SYRIZA – PASOK alliance

From the opposition, SYRIZA and PASOK-KINAL appeared in complete alignment, as according to information, PASOK-KINAL’s rapporteur Haris Kastanidis and George Katrougalos from SYRIZA tried once again to connect the attempted entrapment abroad that was denounced by Mr. Androulakis with the case of the journalist Thanasis Koukakis, the complaints of the KKE since 2016 about surveillance in Perissos but also publications of the newspapers Dimokratia and EFSYN about hacking and alleged surveillance of 12-year-old refugee children and lawyers for immigrants
“Whoever was watching Koukakis was also watching Androulakis” is reported to have been said by Mr. Kastanidis, who then confused the President of the Communications Privacy Protection Authority Christos Rammos with the Commander of the National Security Agency Panagiotis Kontoleon and attacked him for the National Telecommunications Service.

As Mr. Kontoleon is reported to have pointed out, 15,700 requests for the removal of privacy are submitted annually, with the EYP having a small subset of them. In 2021, this sub-total was reduced by 40%, while the money from the so-called “special account” was allocated to construction processes.
According to the same information, the Commander of the EYP explained that the Pegasus software is a global phenomenon, as it was detected in 2018 in 45 countries and in Greece. The existence of infectious software in the Greek area does not mean activity in the Greek area, Mr. Kontoleon is reported to have emphasized, recalling that due to the rapid technological development, these threats no longer occur locally, but are international.
The Commander of the EYP, emphasized that the Service is in communication with Europe and that the status of legal connections has not changed, except that in 2018 the approval of the Supreme Court prosecutor was eliminated.
