Police: Prohibited gathering in Monastiraki

By order of the police, it is forbidden today to hold the announced public open-air meeting at 19:00 in Monastiraki Square by members of the “Assembly of Solidarity to the anarchist hunger strike G. MICHAILIDIS”.

According to an announcement by GADA, by decision of the Athens Police Directorate, it is prohibited to hold the announced public open-air meeting on 29-7-2022 at 19:00 in Monastiraki Square by members of the “Assembly of Solidarity to the Anarchist Hunger Strike G. MICHAILIDI” in urban network enclosed by the following streets: Contribution of Ambrosiou Frantzis and Kallirrois streets – Kallirois – Ardittos – Vassileos Kon/nou – Rizari – Vassilissis Sofias – Akadimias – Chalkokondili – Sokratou – Piraeus – Agioi Asomatos – Apostolou Pavlou – Robertou Gali- Garivaldi- Mouson- Orlov- Tsami Karatasou- Anastasiou Zinni- Ambrosiou Frantzis and Kallirrois during the period from 17:00 today 29-7-2022 to 02:00 on 30-7-2022.

The above prohibition is imposed, on the one hand, as the organizers did not notify the local Police Authority of their intention to invite the general public to participate, at a specific place and time, in a public outdoor gathering as they should, in accordance with the provisions of article 3 par 1 & 2 of Law 4703/2020 and article 3 of the Presidential Decree 73/2020, and therefore it was not possible to comply with the prescribed procedure of the current legislation on public outdoor gatherings and, on the one hand, its conduct poses a serious risk to public safety and threatens serious disruption of socio-economic life in the specific area, traffic vehicles and pedestrians, the operation of the infrastructure and public facilities of the place where it takes place.
