Theodorikakos: Twice as many police officers at the country’s airports and entry gates

As Mr. Theodorikakos stated after the meeting, “with timely operational planning, the police forces at the entry and exit points of the country were doubled, with 1,090 additional police officers added to the 1,050 already serving”.

The effectiveness of security measures at the country’s airports and gateways, where arrivals are very high and in some areas increased compared to 2019, i.e. before travel measures were imposed due to the pandemic, were discussed in a wide-ranging meeting via video conference, which was held today under the Minister of Citizen Protection Takis Theodorikakos.

As Mr. Theodorikakos stated after the meeting, “with timely operational planning, the police forces at the entry and exit points of the country were doubled, with 1,090 additional police officers added to the already serving 1,050”, who are successfully managing the increased number of visitors. as passport control personnel have undergone targeted special training.

“For a destination to be attractive, it must be and is safe”, emphasized Mr. Theodorikakos and added: “From the effective work of the Greek Police, an added capital has been produced for the country. You go to Greece because it is an attractive destination and you have a lot of things to see, but at the same time, you go to Greece because you are absolutely safe and you are not going to get in trouble. It’s a triptych. Two of the three aspects of the triptych are satisfied by the Greek Police”.

The police directors pointed out at the meeting the impressive increase in visitors, while it was specifically mentioned that on August 1 alone, more than 96,000 passengers entered the country from the “Eleftherios Venizelos” airport.

The meeting was held with the participation of the Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection Lefteris Economos, the head of the Hellenic Police, Lt. General Konstantinos Skoumas, the Inspector General of the Police of Southern Greece, Lt. Gen. Georgios Kanellos, the head of the Foreigners and Border Protection Branch of the Hellenic Police Headquarters, Lt. Gen. Dimitris Mallios and 21 police directors.

In his post on social media, Mr. Theodorikakos states:

“We have doubled the police force at all entry and exit gates, for the service of travelers and the security of the country. We are alert, for the peak and smooth completion of the tourist season. We support tourism by enhancing the feeling of security and speedy service to visitors.”
