The Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias, had a conversation with China’s Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, during his visit to Cambodia for the work of the 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.

Mr. Dendias stated: “I would like to refer specifically to the meeting with Mr. Wang Yi, the Foreign Minister of China. During this meeting, I had the opportunity to receive his assurance of support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and sovereign rights of Greece in the face of the challenges it faces.

A position fully compatible with International Law, considering that China is a permanent member of the Security Council.

And on the other hand, I had the opportunity to repeat the Greek position in favor of the ‘One China policy’, a position that is also the European position on this issue.”

Regarding the ASEAN summit, Mr. Dendias said: “Today I had the pleasure and honor on behalf of the Hellenic Republic to sign here in Phnom Penh the Friendship and Cooperation Agreement between Greece and the Pact of Southeast Asian Nations, i.e. ASEAN , an area of more than six hundred million people with a Gross National Product of more than three trillion and with positions completely compatible with the Greek positions on the issues of International Law of the Sea. I think it is another important step in a Greek foreign policy which has been characterized as a policy beyond the known horizon”.

Mr. Dendias had four bilateral meetings: with the Foreign Minister of China, the Foreign Minister of Qatar, the Foreign Minister of Indonesia and the Foreign Minister of Thailand.
