The prime minister’s “morning coffee” with his close associates at the Maximos Palace will be decisive for the statement he will make today in relation to the case of phone surveillance.

The only thing that is certain is that August is now making news. The summer heat has not touched the parties that work with the engines on full blast. In July it was in election readiness making the ballots (they got a small extension for their formation in September) now the staffs are moving at the pace of TIF, but mainly they are following the developments in relation to the telephone monitoring. THE resignation of Grigoris Dimitriadiswhich had a central role in shaping the government’s work and was a point of reference for many ministers, fell like a bolt of lightning and the reactions are now chain.

The prime minister’s “morning coffee” with his close associates at the Maximos Palace will be decisive for the statement he will make today in relation to the case of telephone monitoring.

THE Kyriakos Mitsotakis he is expected to present all the data concerning the legal connection to his phone Nikos Androulakis. Maximos reminds that the prime minister’s office was only informed last Thursday by the EYP about the issue of monitoring the mobile phone of the president of PASOK. Herodos Attikou’s line remains that “plenty of light” must be shed on the case, and this is expected if Mr. Mitsotakis points it out in his message. The major one, it is expected to say, is the government’s insistence on clarifying “the what, the how and the why”.

It is a given that the incorrect manipulations, such as the time gap that intervened until it came to the personal knowledge of the prime minister that Mr. Androulakis’ phone was being monitored exposed and surprised Maximos. Government sources are categorical that consent would never have been given to monitor a political figure.

The information states that his resignation Panagiotis Kontoleontos had been decided by Maximos since Thursday evening, as the EYP administrator is charged with responsibility for the choices made in the Androulakis case. The matter, however, took on very large dimensions with the opposition going to the bars. According to reports, the prime minister called Grigoris Dimitriadis to his office and asked him to resign. What is it that bothered you in relation to the closest person to Kyriakos Mitsotakis? He had the responsibility to know exactly what was happening and to inform the prime minister immediately. It was considered certain that the results of the ADAE investigation would cause a new wave of attacks against Mr. Dimitriadis that would cause more damage to Maximos. Government officials talk about the toxicity in political life that the Prime Minister has talked about many times.

Today, Mr. Mitsotakis is expected to focus on taking drastic political initiatives which the government undertook, which in addition to accepting the double request for a new meeting of the Institutions and Transparency Committee, as well as for the establishment of an Inquiry Committee, included both resignations. He will refer to the manner in which the case is handled, which exudes absolute institutional respect and that the main objectives are to clarify every aspect of the matter and to ensure the public interest.

It is not excluded, according to other information sources, that the Prime Minister will also send an invitation to the political forces to submit proposals regarding the improvement of the National Intelligence Service’s operating framework. From Herodos Attikou they continue to state that they are at the disposal of Nikos Androulakis for anything needed beyond the special information that EYP undertook to give him.

SYRIZA

In the official opposition they talk about it Greek Watergate which will bring down the Mitsotakis government. In the Political Secretariat which was held on an emergency basis on Saturday, they said “yes” to the formation of an Inquiry Committee with the commitment that a Pre-Inquiry Committee will also be established when SYRIZA takes over.

From Koumoundourou they emphasize that the crucial question is which other politicians and journalists are being monitored by the government. They request “the immediate intervention of the prosecutor of the Supreme Court in the EYP with the aim of fully clarifying its illegal operation, and restoring it within the framework of the Constitution and the laws”.

They ask SYRIZA two more questions:

– “Why did the prime minister, when the ND came to power, take over as head of the EYP?”

– Why did the government promote and vote for the amendment that removed the ability of the National Security Agency to inform if a citizen was under surveillance?

On a political level, SYRIZA believes that the government is in a tight spot on the way to the elections, as it will find itself apologizing to the Parliament for this issue from September, while the rift with PASOK is large and deep. And if Kyriakos Mitsotakis hoped that after the first elections he would be able to form a government with Nikos Andurlakis (if he did not achieve self-reliance), this scenario no longer exists.

PASOK

The high tones used by Nikos Androulakis in his written statement yesterday were indicative of the bellicosity that exists with the government.“Three days after the revelation that the EYP was monitoring my mobile phone, at the same time that there was an attempt to trap it and with the Predator software, which has the ability to videotape you 24 hours a day, the government is flooding the public with vulgar leaks dialogue” he said characteristically.

As he pointed out, “they are circulating unreal scenarios involving third countries that they requested my monitoring by dragging the country internationally. The Ambassadors of Ukraine and Armenia publicly denied them. At the same time, officials of the New Democracy in close collaboration with far-right groups are spreading slanders proving their political depravity . It has reached the point where the Director of the ND Press Office is publicly evaluating the EYP meetings against me. Does he know the content of the surveillance?”

PASOK asks the government to state why the mobile phone of Nikos Androulakis was under surveillance and at the same time who owns and on whose behalf they use the spy “super-ship” Predator in Greece at the expense of politicians and journalists. In this climate, the president of PASOK does not intend to meet with the new head of the EYP, while in Harilaou Trikoupi, they consider Giorgos Gerapetritis’s attempt to contact him belatedly to be hypocritical.

KKE

The KKE is also positive about the establishment of an Inquiry Committee in the Parliament with its statement Dimitris Koutsouba. “The KKE agrees to the establishment of a commission of inquiry to monitor the phone of Nikos Androulakis and will contribute to the disclosure of all aspects of the case. It will also request that the cases of meetings at the headquarters of the Central Committee of the KKE be included as the subject of the committee , as the relevant complaints have been virtually unanswered for years, remaining in the drawers of the authorities who are supposed to ensure the security and privacy of communications,” the Secretary said in his statement.
