The former prime minister emphasizes that the celebrations would be understandable if, as the official opposition, the ND had turned its back instead of investing in populism.
THE former Prime Minister, George Papandreou, criticizes him with his statement Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the SW for the celebrations since her exit enhanced supervision.
“The exit from enhanced supervision shows that there is a national need for a paradigm shift”, he points out and mentions that they are celebrating “without even a trace of self-criticism for the disastrous government policy of 2004-2009, which not only caused the debt to double, but also deceived both the EU and the Greek people about the huge deficit, collapsing the prestige of our country internationally.”
Mr. Papandreou notes that the celebrations would be understandable if he had stood back as an official opposition instead of investing in populism. “I would understand them, if the thirst for power did not leave two memorandums unfinished so that we could be led with SYRIZA to an unnecessary, third memorandum. I would understand them, if they did not orchestrate the political persecution of an official – Andreas Georgiou…I would finally understand them, if they had learned from the lessons of the crisis and had changed their behavior, showing a different understanding of the management of power. If they fought for transparency instead of monitoring their political opponents, if they served to deepen the institutions of accountability, control and also democratic consultation regarding the life, money, resources of the Greek people. If they managed the huge sums from the EU for the recovery, with a comprehensive plan for a sustainable transition to the green and digital age and with transparency instead of handouts”claims the former prime minister.
“We got out of the enhanced supervision thanks to the huge sacrifices of the Greek people and the effort of all those who made a superhuman fight to keep the country from going bankrupt. Against the irresponsible policy of SYRIZA which organized gatherings of outraged people in the squares together with the ND, which almost took Greece out of the Eurozone, which with the choices of his government led us to the third memorandum” points out Mr. Papandreou and adds: ” not only can the ND not celebrate, but neither can the Greek people. At a time when we are facing major national and international challenges, there is a risk that the great sacrifices of the Greeks will be lost if the clientelistic and anachronistic way of managing the state, institutions, economy and power does not change. Therefore, it is a national imperative to change the paradigm.”
