Varoufakis: The NSA has been following me and my wife since 2015

Addressing the prime minister, Mr. Varoufakis said: “Your prime ministership is over. The project of your re-election on the basis of cooperation with PASOK is over. Your prime ministership was a bubble.”

You spoke with a tone that is not in line with today’s Plenary Session, the president of MeRA25, Yanis Varoufakis, said at the beginning of his speech in the debate in the Parliament on wiretapping.

He continued addressing the prime minister: “Your prime ministership is over. The project of your re-election on the basis of cooperation with PASOK is over. Your prime ministership was a bubble.”

Yanis Varoufakis added: “Your imprisonment will bring a moral relief to the society, which does not tolerate the anonymous company, the sense of entitlement in the familism, your arrogance. The applause you got was a farewell, before your demobilization.”

Addressing the ND MPs, he said: “You know that Kyriakos Mitsotakis is finished. Destabilization is necessary to revive hope for democracy in the country.”

Responding to the reports of Mitsotakis, that he himself has stated that he was being monitored during the SYRIZA government, Mr. Varoufakis said: “Yes, every word you read in my book is true. But I will never allow you to put what the ND trolls say in my mouth.

I never said that Alexis Tsipras was watching me. I said that when I first met the EYP chief, Mr. Roubatis made it clear to me that the EYP under his own administration does not monitor Greek citizens unless they are talking to foreigners who are targeted by the EYP.

My phone has been tracked since 2015, but I will tell you specifically that the NSA has been tracking my and my wife’s cell phones. “Boys from the German embassy were eavesdropping outside my office on what we said to each other in 2015. And this is consistent with what Mr. Roubatis had told me.”

Mr. Varoufakis even called the case of Greece’s Watergate wiretapping, saying that the American Washington Post also called it that.

Earlier, the prime minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis attacked SYRIZA for the stance he has taken in the case of wiretapping, in fact asking Mr. Varoufakis to stand in the Parliament on his earlier complaint that under the leadership of Mr. Roubatis in the EYP, he even operated at the expense of the SYRIZA government itself.
