Tsipras: Immediate investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission on whether and how many more MPs and MEPs are being monitored

by

Recently, we are facing an unprecedented post-political institutional violation, anti-democratic deviation, said the president of SYRIZA.

The president of SYRIZA, Alexis Tsipras, requested that an investigation be carried out by ADAE on whether and how many more MPs and MEPs have fallen victim to surveillance, during his visit today to the independent authority and the meeting with the presidency.

Mr. Tsipras made the following statement:

“Today I visited the president of the constitutionally independent authority that has the responsibility to control the observance of the constitutional good which is the absolute inviolability of communications. As well as controlling the conditions and procedures, based on which the de-confidentiality of communications is foreseen.

The ADAE is the institutional counterweight, in order to respect the letter of the Constitution and to protect every citizen from malicious practices that violate the constitutional right to the privacy of communications.

Recently, we are facing an unprecedented post-political institutional violation, anti-democratic deviation.

After the latest developments and the chilling position of the Prime Minister in the Hellenic Parliament last Friday, where he left it open, he did not deny the possibility that other political figures, elected MPs and MEPs are being monitored.

As well as his formulation that the EYP can function as a watertight, without the political leader knowing who and why he is watching, I asked the president of ADAE, Mr. Rammos to conduct an investigation in order for this big shadow to leave our political system and the functioning of the state.

To investigate and answer if there are and how many political figures, MPs or MEPs, who have been legally connected, at least in the last 2 years, that the communications providers are allowed to keep records.

I encouraged him to call the Speaker of the House, Mr. Tasoula, to forward to him the cell phone numbers of all the MPs and MEPs who wish to take part in this investigation so that the ADAE can officially provide answers.

I know that there is the notorious article 87 of the law of March 2021, the amendment of Mr. Mitsotakis, which aims to paralyze the capabilities of the AIAEA to investigate and provide answers to every citizen, but this cannot stand in the face of the constitutional imperative, not to tell us which persons are being monitored but to tell us if they are being monitored and how many political figures and in this case MPs and MEPs. Elected, elected, representatives of the Greek people.

I am sure that both the president of ADAE and those who staff it will do their duty. I expect that the president of the Parliament will also do his duty.”
