Message that the revisionism and changing borders cannot be tolerated, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis sent during his meeting at the Maxomo Palace with the President of Slovakia, Zuzana Čaputová, who is making her first official visit to Greece.

Regarding Turkey’s escalating aggressive rhetoric, Kyriakos Mitsotakis reiterated that Greece’s permanent position is dialogue based on International Law, International Law of the Sea and good neighborly relations.

He also emphasized that it is unacceptable for Greece to receive threats that go as far as questioning Greek sovereignty from a country that is an ally in NATO.

The meeting confirmed the excellent level of bilateral relations, which have been strengthened in recent years, while issues of international, regional and European interest were discussed, with an emphasis on energy and the green transition.

The Prime Minister underlined the need to jointly address the energy crisis and stressed, on the occasion of the meeting of the European Union Energy Ministers on September 9, that the major challenges for European unity require bold European decisions to support households and businesses.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis informed Ms. Čaputová about the infrastructure that Greece is developing in order to become a hub for importing and transferring energy to the Balkans and Europe, as well as about the transfer of “green” electricity from Africa.

The prime minister thanked Mrs. Čaputová for the presence of a significant Slovak force in the Cyprus peacekeeping force UNFICYP and for the position of authority she maintains in the Cyprus conflict and places the respect of International Law and the decisions of the UN Security Council at the center of attention.

At the beginning of the meeting the Prime Minister and the President of Slovakia had the following dialogue:

Kyriakos Mitsotakis: It is my great pleasure to welcome you to Greece, in the context of this official visit, which is proof of the excellent relationship between our two countries. We look forward to our discussion, not only in terms of the bilateral aspects of our relationship but also the critical challenges we face as a united Europe against Russian aggression and of course the dramatic effects this war has had on our economies, the rising cost of living. The obligation to face the rising cost of energy at the European level. These are all significant challenges.

But I would like to thank you again and thank Slovakia for always supporting us. You are always on the side of International Law. We consider you a true friend and loyal ally of our country.

Zuzana Caputová: Thank you very much for the warm welcome. I am very happy for this opportunity to meet you in person. We met a few weeks ago at the NATO Summit. As you said, our bilateral relations are at a very good level, but I see that there is a perspective for strengthening and deepening our bilateral cooperation in many areas and of course on the issue of the energy crisis. I had a very productive and useful discussion with Madam President and I look forward to our discussion as well.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis: It is our pleasure to have two female Presidents. As you know, Mrs. President is the first female President in the history of our Republic. I believe that, from this point of view, we are sending a very important message.
