He expressed confidence that the increase in the minimum wage will be well above 2%, the Deputy Minister of Interior, Stelios Petsas speaking on SKAI TV and the show “Today”.
He explained that the way of calculating the increase of the minimum wage takes into account the inflation, the growth rate but also the possibilities of the Greek economy “and as we understand with a growth rate that – in my estimation, will approach 8% this year, does not we can talk about a 2% increase “.
Mr. Petsas added that as the increases in energy prices are temporary, the dynamic growth rate of the Greek economy will continue in 2022 “so the increases will be well above 2% there is no doubt about it.”
Dynamically growing economy – Measures shield the market
Responding to the market reactions to the new measures for the entry of the unvaccinated with rapid test, the Deputy Minister of Interior reminded of the very difficult times when everything was closed or click away and called on everyone to turn their backs as the measures shield the market.
“It is not a terrible thing to observe this kind of measures that exist today, they just shield the market that it will work”, stressed Mr. Petsas and said he was optimistic about the course of the economy that is dynamically developing.
“The only thing that worries us at the moment and wants a management attention as a temporary phenomenon, are the price increases which are serious, they are big, they are imported a lot, but I believe they will have an expiration date as well,” he added.
The exercise of religious right is not a matter of division
To the criticism received by the government regarding the entry of the unvaccinated in the churches, Mr. Petsas replied that measures are applied with distances but also with an obligation for rapid test twice a week to the priests and the staff of the temples.
He added that the exercise of the religious right is a basic individual and constitutional right and not a matter of division, while there is also the practical part, that the implementation of the measure cannot be monitored. “It is a matter practically inapplicable in the Church” stressed Mr. Petsas and noted that in universities, shops, entertainment centers, there is a possibility to check the certificates and identify their holders.
The main message of the government, the minister added, is to vaccinate everyone, leaving behind the sirens of irrationality.
He accused SYRIZA of either fishing in murky waters or trying to create divisions and that it usually turns against the church, a course the government will not follow as it believes in unity.
