His entire presentation at the SYRIZA political secretariat meeting
Fierce criticism of the government and personally of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was made by Alexis Tsiprasduring his presentation at today’s meeting of his political secretariat SYRIZA.
The president of the official opposition party asked the executives to be in electoral readiness, saying that the prime minister is deeply wounded by the latest events and especially by the issue of wiretapping.
He stated that “it is the government’s choice to financially plunder the wage earners and the middle class” and commented that planning to change the electoral law is a discredit to the institutions.
In more detail he emphasized:
The pre-election period has already started, so the party must be in permanent election readiness. When the elections will be held, especially after the latest developments, is not certain. The only given is that it will be a tough battle, which we have every possibility of winning.
The ND government and personally Mr. Mitsotakis are now deeply wounded by the wiretapping case. The case has depth and will not be erased or forgotten.
Because it is not about random incidents but about a governance model. Mr. Mitsotakis did not make any mistake or failure. That’s how he ruled. The Mitsotakis system listened to whoever it wanted, whoever it wanted and whenever it wanted. Not just since he took office.
And the scope of eavesdropping is so vast, especially with modern and illegal surveillance software, that there is no doubt that there will be more.
And the refusal to cancel the amendment concerning the paralysis of the Parliamentary Assembly, the refusal to provide all the telephone numbers of MPs and MEPs in order to check the possibility of their contractual monitoring, but also the invocation of confidentiality in the Institutions and Transparency Committee in order to keep everything in the dark , constitute absolute proof of Mr. Mitsotakis’ guilt.
In any case, this case is a serious trauma in the functioning of the state and presupposes that Mr. Mitsotakis, as the main responsible and moral author of this diversion, is now the outgoing prime minister.
And I wonder how he will be able to stand in the next period in a Europe where there are no media funding lists, as a result of which dozens of authoritative International Media have already exposed his regime and anti-democratic behavior. Let’s not forget, of course, that all this is happening while at the same time society is experiencing an unprecedented storm of accuracy. Energy inflation is the biggest and by far the most in all of Europe. And it is largely due to the government’s choices to leave the energy and fuel cartel intact. That is, in its choice to plunder the middle class and the wage earners, leaving high indirect taxes, VAT on basic consumption products and EFFK on fuel, in order to finance subsidies that keep intact the surplus profits and skyrocketing profits of the cartels.
But this cannot continue indefinitely. It is therefore very likely that the government, in its inability to manage the fiscal implications of its choices, will hasten the change of the electoral law and resort to elections before it finds itself in the difficult position of tabling next year’s budget. Changing the electoral law for the second time within the same government term is something unprecedented for our political affairs and is also a blatant proof of the disrespect of the institutions and the democratic functioning of the state by Mr. Mitsotakis personally. But it is also an admission of defeat. In any case, Mr. Mitsotakis seems to have chosen to dig the pit where he will eventually fall into. Despite this, SYRIZA PS should not act based on party benefit, but based on its principles.
From a position of principles and values, we will present in the coming days and on the occasion of the TIF, both a plan for courageous but realistic measures to protect society, as well as a plan for the institutional restructuring of our Republic, so that in the future there will be institutional counterweights that will protect the democratic functioning of the state. Our strategy, based on the decisions of our recent conference, for political change and the formation of a progressive government, is proving day by day that it is the only realistic way forward for society and democracy. And it will be confirmed by our victory in the next electoral contest of simple proportionality, whenever it takes place.
