At the same time, the Minister of Foreign Affairs sent the message that Greece expects from its partners and allies support for the self-evident.

A strict and clear message that Turkey’s statements and actions are unacceptable, unheard of and reprehensible, but also that “we are not afraid or afraid” and “reject the neo-Ottoman dailies”, Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias sent in a press conference after the meeting with the French foreign minister in Athens.

As Nikos Dendias found out, Turkey is trying to turn back the clock of history, to revive the Ottoman Empire and made it clear that the statements and actions of the Turkish side are not acceptable. “We have faced much more serious threats in our very long history. And I want to be clear, we completely reject the neo-Ottoman bullshit. I use a word of Turkish origin, so that it is completely understood,” he pointed out.

Equally, he announced that Greece is not going to be carried away by delirium, it is a European country, a modern Democracy, committed to International Law, the Charter of the United Nations, the International Treaties, and is in favor of constructive dialogue, always at the basis of the International Right.

At the same time, the Minister of Foreign Affairs sent the message that Greece expects from its partners and allies support for the self-evident.

In particular, he thanked his French counterpart for the information about the contacts he had in Turkey and emphasized that he fully shares the position he expressed to the Turkish Foreign Minister that there should be no escalation, no rhetorical escalation.

“On a daily basis, Turkish officials make outrageous statements against Greece and the Greek people, against the government. Maps showing Greek islands as Turkish appear. It is stated by the Turkish side that these islands are “under Greek occupation”. It is stated, repeatedly, and most recently today during your stay there, that “they may come suddenly in the night”. That is, to invade the islands. I remind you that opposite the Aegean islands there is the largest amphibious fleet in Europe and a full army. Just yesterday, it was said that “Greece is not Turkey’s equal and cannot be its interlocutor”. Turkey threatens Greece with war (casus belli), if it applies its rights derived from International Law and the International Law of the Sea. It violates our national sovereignty on a daily basis. This year there have been more than 6,100 violations of the national airspace, 157 overflights over Greek territory and 1,000 violations of our territorial waters,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs in particular.

Addressing his French counterpart, he said that he did not think that this experienced diplomat would have encountered a similar number of violations around the world.

He also noted that Turkey owns the territory of a European country, Cyprus, does not apply sanctions against Russia, and uses immigration as a tool.

Responding to a related question, he stated that the Greek side considers that the EU has taken a clear position and that the EU fully assumes the stake and fully understands that the Greek side is doing everything it can within the framework of International Law and its International Law of the Sea and that one cannot operate alone. Both the high representative and the Czech presidency have issued direct statements which comment in an absolutely negative way on the unacceptable and outrageous Turkish positions of the last few days and the attitude in general, he noted and referring to the Turkish responses, he characterized them as unacceptable.

Asked about today’s statements by President ErdoÄŸan, the Foreign Minister underlined that the Turkish side has been making more and more outrageous and unacceptable statements in recent days and reiterated that Greece always acts on the basis of International Law and the Law of the Sea and advised him “anyone who dreams of attacks and conquests, should think three or four times. We are sufficient to defend our homeland, territorial independence and integrity. And we are absolutely convinced of our alliances and the attitude of our partners. The EU already proved in the case of Ukraine that threats and invasions beyond International Law create an unprecedented unity and a straightforward
