Ahtsioglou: Society’s tolerance has long been exhausted

by

“The tolerance of Greek society has long since been exhausted”, argues the head of the Finance Department of SYRIZA-PS, Efi Ahtsiogloucommenting on the “celebrations”, as mentioned by government officials, about the growth rate of the second quarter of 2022.

Mrs. Ahtsioglou reports: “Congratulating and self-justifying the government officials today are celebrating the rate of growth in the second quarter of 2022, of course Mr. Mitsotakis’s priority is that he also expressed his concern for the standard of living of the citizens” and then argues: “With more of our fellow citizens facing poverty, with inequalities growing, with workers’ purchasing power eroded, with 4 out of 10 small and medium-sized businesses threatened with foreclosure, with citizens already paying almost 6 billion more in taxes than last year, of which 2.5 billion in VAT due to accuracy Mitsotakiswith energy precision sweeping households and government officials threatening society with the toughest winter since 1942, everyone understands who is reaping the benefits of this growth and who is paying the price.”

Continuing, he states: “With the funds threatening citizens’ first homes, while the government through the banks distributes 455 million euros in loans from the Recovery Fund to only 13 companies with an interest rate of 0.77%, excluding at the same time almost all of the small and medium entrepreneurship from financing and again everyone understands who this development concerns and who it does not. Let’s keep in mind, as evidenced by the data, that the cumulative GDP losses that occurred in the last three years have not been compensated”.

In closing, he notes that “the right to celebrations is inalienable but not unlimited. Sometimes it runs into tolerance.”
