The high level of Greek-French relations, reaffirmed once again and a year after the signing of the Strategic Partnership Agreement in Defense and Security, Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Emmanuel Macronduring their meeting in Paris, standing together against Turkey’s escalating provocation and sending a joint message of zero tolerance from the Elysee Palace to Ankara’s revisionism.

After the resounding “no” to ErdoÄŸan and the “slutty yoke” from Thessaloniki, the Greek prime minister, also from French territory and with Greece’s strong ally, the French President, on his side, continued to respond strictly to the extremes of the Turkish President and in his bellicose threat “we will come suddenly one night” declaring that “we await them in the light of day. Where it is plainly seen who has right and true power on his side”while he called on Tayyip ErdoÄŸan to abandon provocations and threats of war and to walk the path of international law.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in the private meeting he had with Emmanuel Macron, according to government sources, informed the French president about Turkey’s ever-escalating aggression and the unacceptable challenges to Greek sovereignty, which undermine stability and security in the region. He also recalled the stable role of Greece in the Eastern Mediterranean region, remaining a pillar of stability and peace and reiterated the need for dialogue based on the principles of international law, the law of the sea and the principles of good neighborliness. It made clear the absolute readiness of our country to defend its security, sovereignty and rights.

After all, from the stage of the joint statements with the French president, the Greek prime minister had decided to send double ready message and power to the neighbor to the east, recalling from French soil the continued strengthening of Greece’s armed forces with the powerful French Rafale fighters already flying in the Greek skies and the Belharra frigates already being built in the shipyards in Lorient, but at the same time he overemphasized the strong alliances of our country and the strength of our legitimacy and arguments based solely on international law.

Indeed, the conclusion of the statements of Kyriakos Mitsotakis, with President Macron at his side, with the phrase “Together Stronger”, made absolutely clear the common message sent by the two leaders, and even more so the absolute support provided to Greece by the French president, in the face of the non-existent challenges of Greek sovereignty by Turkey, warning that he will not allow unrest in the Eastern Mediterranean. Moreover, he gave the Greece-France strategic partnership agreement for security and defense characteristics of strengthening common security and European sovereignty.

Coordination of movements in the energy sector as well

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed their views on the energy crisis which has hit Europe from the blackmails of the Russian President and the national measures taken by Greece and France in order to shield themselves.

In fact, despite the individual differences in the measures that must be taken at the European level to deal with the energy crisis, mainly with regard to the ceiling, with Athens promoting the solution of the maximum price as a whole in the wholesale price of natural gas on the stock market and Paris is drawn up with the ceiling only on Russian natural gasKyriakos Mitsotakis and Emmanuel Macron, reportedly agreed on the need for a coordinated response from the European Union.

Common ground between the two leaders in order to put a “brake” on natural gas prices seems to be the perception that this is only possible through joint interventions and movements and in this context, according to government sources, both are expected to move in this the direction for a loud intervention and rapid decision-making at the informal European Council to be held in Prague on October 6-7 and at the regular European Council on October 20 and 21.

Special reference was also made to the issue of its adequacy energy supply and in this context, the Greek Prime Minister underlined the important prospects that our country’s infrastructure offers for Europe’s energy security and the independence from Russian energy sources, noting at the same time the possibility of transforming the country into an energy transfer hub to the EU.
