The fear of the “soft vote” and the climate of polarization

The parties exorcise one thing in all election contests. In the municipal – regional, European elections and especially in the parliamentary polls: the loose vote. Complacency and the logic of “next time” is the enemy of political forces and this was shown by the press conference of the Prime Minister at TIF. THE Kyriakos Mitsotakis he referred to simple proportionality and explained that with the specific electoral system, numerically, the minority parties can unite and form a government. With this reasoning he characterized “political monstrosity” the cooperation of SYRIZA, PASOK, KKE and MeRA25.
What do they see in the blue lineup? How in Koumoundourou they are trying to exploit and contrast the narrative of self-reliance in the second ballots, which they advocate, with progressive governance rather than simple proportionality. In Herodos Atticus – they may not admit it – but they see the first election contest as an obstacle that they must quickly overcome. Quickly, but not casually. They estimate that the formation of a government is at the back of the minds of Koumoundourou officials even if SYRIZA does not win the first place. THE Nikos Philis speaking to the “First Program” he was clear that “the Constitution says that to have a government you must have 151 seats. We will see what the ballot will bring. The ballot box is a mandate of the people. From there will emerge what Mr. Mitsotakis shuns and slanders as teratogenesis.”

Forming a government led by the second party is not a simple process. Given first how the KKE has categorically ruled it out and in all tones any case of confluence. At the same time PASOK continues the two-frontwhile and MeRA25 has never said “yes” to SYRIZA. For the last two, several officers in the official opposition believe that in the “difficult hour” they will not refuse to cooperate. The suffocating pressure they will face between the two giants is estimated to act as a catalyst, as the dilemma will be one and the same: “lack of governance”. And the smudge hardly goes away…

What the Prime Minister wanted to make clear from Thessaloniki is that the step that will allow the ND to claim the independence are the first polls. In this line the party apparatus of the blue faction will mobilize its people very early in order to avoid any contingency. SYRIZA defeat close to four points, it is clear that Koumoundourou will call it a “derby” from the moment it will have managed to significantly reduce the gap.

The climate is expected to remain polarized throughout the next period, with the government officials insisting on recalling the first phase of the SYRIZA government, emphasizing Yanis Varoufakis and 2015. In this way, they will attempt to approach the PASOK electoral base with strong ” anti-SYRIZA” sentiments. Unless there is a change in the Prime Minister’s strategy that includes the promotion of Harilaou Trikoupis at the right time. In other words, the ND should form a government with the vote of the MPs who wish to go along with it.
