Kerameos: Practical support for our students and the students of the public IEK

The Minister of Education mentioned the measures for student housing during the discussion of the bill of the Ministry of Finance, in the Plenary of the Parliament.

The measures for student housing were mentioned by the Minister of Education and Religious Affairs, Niki Kerameos, during the discussion of the bill of the Ministry of Finance, in the Plenary of the Parliament.

“Up for a vote before the Plenary of the Parliament is another announcement by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, regarding student housing. The first regulation has to do with the increase of the housing allowance for students from 1,000 euros to 1,500 euros. The second regulation has to do with the further increase to 2,000 euros if the student in question lives with another student”, said Niki Kerameos and pointed out: “These measures will apply retroactively, with the beneficiaries also being the students and the students of the public IEK for the academic year 2021-2022. Now that is, this allowance will be paid for the past year in an increased manner according to the new regulations”.

These two regulations, said the Minister of Education, “come to support our students and the students of the public IEK in a practical way and are added to the other measures announced by the Prime Minister, namely the construction of new student residences for 8,150 students”. As he explained, the new student residences will be built through a public-private partnership in five universities of the country, the Democritus University, the University of Western Macedonia, the University of Crete, the University of Thessaly and the University of Western Attica.
