“The Greek and Turkish people are in harmonious coexistence. Eight years after 1922 the leaders of the two countries signed a peace agreement. That is why today, from the United Nations, I would like to address not only the Turkish leadership but also directly to the Turkish people with this message: Greece is not a threat to your country. We are not your enemies. We are neighbors. We appreciate the many friendships between ordinary Greek and Turkish citizens. I know that the vast majority in our two countries do not want political conflict and enmity. So let’s move forward in a spirit of cooperation and friendship, with mutual respect and in accordance with International Law”, said Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis from the floor of the 77th UN General Assembly.
