Alexis Tsipras harshly criticized the government and Kyriakos Mitsotakis, for the management of the pandemic and the field of accuracy, in an interview with the “Epirus TV1” television station.
He described the government’s “great audacity” to “have 150 people outside the ICU every day and to boast that you have made a big increase in ICU beds” and accused the prime minister of “voluntarily continuing the IMF policy and the memoranda in Health”, that he insists on ideological recipes that failed in the past and led the country to bankruptcy, while he commented that the citizen is looking to find in his pocket where this “growth” is.
The leader of the official opposition stressed that “the crucial thing is that there must be political change and there must be progressive governance for the country to move forward, leaving behind a catastrophic period and through the management of the pandemic, but also the economy from the side of the government of ND of Mr. Mitsotakis “. He added that this, like the pandemic, labor relations, the minimum wage, the opacity of public money in the midst of a pandemic, are critical issues that concern the citizens and that whoever is elected to KIN.ALL will be called to give answers. He claimed that if Mr. Mitsotakis holds elections “he will do them to avoid collapse, not because he will be sure that he will win them”.
In particular, speaking about the pandemic, Mr. Tsipras claimed that “a year later we are worse, we are worse all over Europe in deaths per million population”, emphasizing that “it is not possible for Greece to experience such a picture today, with hundreds of people every day to lose their lives and hundreds of casualties intubated outside the ICU “. He noted that “the government has a huge responsibility” and reiterated SYRIZA’s proposals with a focus on strengthening the NSS and Primary Health Care, the need for “serious epidemiological surveillance and tracking”, protection measures in crowded places, such as schools, as well as vaccination. He said that “we also have negative firsts” and that “this reflects a general climate of distrust that the government radiates to society” and “Mr. Mitsotakis is personally blamed for it because he created a climate of lack of trust in society.” He stressed that a special persuasion campaign is needed for our unvaccinated fellow citizens who are scared or lack information, but the government “wasted a lot of money on a campaign aimed at boosting Mitsotakis’ profile in the media.” He said that 40 million were given “to create a regime in the media, which is examined in the examination that was set up”. He stressed that this is “deeply immoral” but also has “very negative results”, since “in practice our fellow citizens who have insufficient information about the need for vaccination” were not convinced.
Mr. Tsipras claimed that after the government failed, “he resorted to the basic tactics followed by every failure, to authoritarianism, to punitive fines, with the incomprehensible decision to define a distorted logic of obligation, without having any intermediate stage, without giving motivation “. Thus, he said, “he who does not have the financial means is actually blackmailed and he who has it, acquires his right to refuse.” He noted that SYRIZA voted against the measure because “it makes no sense”, without this meaning that we do not fully understand the need for effective measures that will encourage or even force some categories of our fellow citizens, especially those who belong to what we call super-transmitters , who come in contact with a lot of people, as was the case with doctors in hospitals […] “We would be positive in such a perspective, but not in a supposedly punitive and foolish obligation, such as the one imposed by the government on those over 60,” he added.
He described the government’s “great audacity” as “having 150 people outside the ICU every day and boasting that you have made a big increase in ICU beds”. He added that it was not enough that “some recruitments of auxiliary doctors and nurses were made”, as “not a single permanent one came” and “the number of vacancies exceeds 15,000”. He stressed that while Europe says “give money to health because the pandemic is a threat”, the government “voluntarily continues the policy of the IMF and the memoranda on health, and this year in a year of severe pandemic crisis cuts the budget for health 800 million. ». He accused Mr. Mitsotakis of “ideological attitude”, that “he hates anything public, his perception is the assignment of everything to the private sphere” and that “this perception as our country led to bankruptcy.” “Mr. Mitsotakis insists on these failed recipes, which are also catastrophic during a pandemic,” he said.
“Despite the delay, even now we need to develop an additional 200 beds, through the ordering of private and military hospitals, but also the creation of new beds in hospitals, so that we do not have fellow human beings outside the ICU,” said Mr. Tsipras.
“Mr. Mitsotakis came out and did the doctor – it was not enough for us that he is the prime minister and he is also a doctor – and he told us that it is the same to be inside, it is the same to be outside,” he commented.
He criticized the prime minister for “announcing the end of the pandemic three times.” “‘Get vaccinated and we’re done’ was a big mistake and gave the wrong message, as did the ‘vaccine pandemic rhetoric’. What does this mean; That you who were vaccinated are carefree, make your life as before. “Wrong,” he said. “And we see it,” he continued, “because obviously the majority of cases and patients are unvaccinated, but a large percentage are also vaccinated, which has to do with the fact that the mutations and the fact that from the first moment he did not have 100 % coverage of the vaccine – one in ten, from the first moment could get sick “.
Speaking about the economy and accuracy, Mr. Tsipras said that “we are experiencing the paradox of talking about high growth rates, when in fact it is a recovery from last year’s great recession – but positive rates and that is positive – and looking for citizen to find in his pocket what this development is “. He noted that “a large portion of our fellow citizens and households are living with the syndrome of the third week when money runs out.” He blamed the government on three levels: “He did not realize in time that a big wave of accuracy was coming. When he realized this, the measures he took were aspirin measures. In the midst of the energy crisis, its study was the transfer of 17% of PPC to private interests through the stock exchange “.
He blamed the government for changing its strategy with its election, resulting in “being champions of wholesale electricity prices in Europe”, while blaming it for an “institutional vacuum”: RAE and the Competition Commission do not intervene, he said, asking their activation, reduction of the Excise Tax and increase of the minimum wage. “There is no bigger lie than that of Mr. Mitsotakis, that the measures he took will reduce the increases in electricity by 80% and that the increase that the citizen will see in the tariff will not be more than 2 euros,” he observed. He spoke of “fraudulent deception, but also a foolish lie”, commenting: “Does not the citizen see the bill, that it is not 2 but 200, 300, 400 euros up, and for businesses 2,000 up?”. He stressed that “the more Mr. Mitsotakis whistles stealthily, the more we will be in a state of social despair and in a state that I fear will lead to a breakdown of social cohesion and social tensions.”
Asked about the elections in KIN.ALL., Mr. Tsipras stressed that “the crucial question for anyone who is elected on Sunday, will be the problems of society and the proposals on them. The positions, not only for the necessary reforms but also for the immediate stake, which is that the country is going backwards with the government of ND and that the country is experiencing a great setback with the government of the Right “. He noted that when referring to “progressive forces”, this can not be indifferent and that “democratic faction means front to the right, otherwise you can not be with both the Right and the democratic faction.”
“These are critical issues that whoever is elected in KIN.ALL will be called to give answers. “and these are issues that concern the citizens”, said Al. Tsipras. He stressed at this point that “the crucial thing is that there must be political change and there must be progressive governance for the country to move forward, leaving behind a catastrophic period and through the management of the pandemic and the economy on its part. government of Mr. Mitsotakis ND “.
Regarding the polls, he commented that “it is not the first time in the country that the phenomenon has almost all the poll measurements give inverted results from what the ballot box shows. “It’s a strange thing, it only happens in Greece, and the even more strange thing is that they were about a candidate who, from what appears to be in the pro-government press, was treated particularly favorably by the Maximos system.”
Mr. Tsipras underlined that “at the end of the day, the critical stake has to do with the daily life of the people, what do you propose for the government, what do you want to happen in the country and sooner or later this will be called a de facto party who does not have the ability to claim the government on his own – let alone in conditions of simple proportional representation – to take a position with which of the two “.
He said that the upcoming SYRIZA-PS congress will be a “conference of continuity and continuity, where we will ratify our coexistence with executives and forces from the wider progressive space in a single party, SYRIZA-PS, but at the same time we will ratify its renewal.” “We will ratify an opening in Greek society, I believe with an important legacy that has to do with the number of our members that has increased significantly.”
He spoke of a qualitative difference in going to the polls to vote for the leader of a party, without ever wanting to participate in the processes of that party and in the production of politics, and that it is different to be a member of a party, to take part in decisions, to form decisions through its interventions and actions. “So for us, it has a value that we have doubled our members. It has a value for us, that through this conference we aim at the even greater opening of SYRIZA-PS to the society “. He added that “this difficult bet will be achieved through a coordinated course and through a conference that will be called to make critical decisions.”
Asked about the elections, he said that as time goes on, this will begin to become a demand of society. He said that a prime minister goes to early elections for two reasons: “either because he is absolutely sure that he will win them, or if he sees that things have gotten so dark that he wants to prevent the collapse” and “Mr. Mitsotakis has left completely. from the first possibility and approaches the second “. So, “if he will hold elections, he will do so to avoid collapse, not because he will be sure that he will win them, this scenario is over …” remarked the leader of the official opposition.
