Mr. Tsipras asked for European sanctions on Turkey if it violates Greece’s sovereign rights.
Coming to the pre-convention of the Party of European Socialists (PES) in Prague, the president of SYRIZA-PS, Alexis Tsipras, made the following statement to the press representatives:
“Europe is facing a difficult winter, which is why effective solutions and decisions are needed.
First of all, Europe will have to decide whether it will proceed with the principle of solidarity or everyone alone in the face of the crisis and whoever can endure.
As Germany seems to be choosing, it is financing 200 billion euros in order to create a tool to deal with the energy crisis in Germany, but it refuses similar tools for all European states or the ceiling on the price of natural gas.
Therefore, we consider that the common European bond for the financing of actions in order to deal with the energy crisis in each member state separately is an absolute necessity.
At the same time, Europe must decide to stop sleepwalking towards the cliff in relation to the Ukrainian crisis. He must take diplomatic initiatives to end the Russian invasion, to end the war as soon as possible. Developments cannot be determined solely by Putin with his warmongering plans, his aggressive plans, and the US with its own economic interests.
Finally, with regard to illegal and provocative actions on the part of Turkey, Europe must also decide whether it will have two standards. It cannot, at the same time that it rightly opposes the Russian invasion of Ukraine, not take a clear position and stance regarding Turkey’s violation of the sovereign rights of an EU member state with the illegal Turkish-Libyan pact.
So the EU must have a clear position regarding a sanctions framework, a sanctions package, based on the 2019 framework that will be activated if Turkey violates Greece’s sovereign rights west of the 28th meridian.”
