The need for the EU to act, in a way that to give a clear message to Turkey that her behavior cannot be accepted, stressed the President of the Republic of CyprusNikos Anastasiadis, in his intervention in the work of the informal European Council, in Prague.
In statements to the media, the government representative of Cyprus, Marios Pelekanos, who is accompanying President Anastasiades in Prague, said that during the informal Council “the leaders of the 27 EU member states had discussions regarding the continuation of financial, military and other aid to the struggling Ukraine. They also discussed the securing the EU’s energy supply in view of the coming winter, in the most economical way, in order to alleviate the problem faced by households and businesses due to the increased energy prices.
Solutions were also discussed addressing accuracy and inflationary pressuresa phenomenon that is observed both globally and at the European level, as well as the need to support the labor market and protect particularly vulnerable groups of the population.
The President of the Republic presented the proposals and positions of Cyprus on the issues discussed and underlined the role that the Eastern Mediterranean and, of course, Cyprus can play in the implementation of the European goal of de-dependence on Russian energy.
In this matter, the President also referred to the ongoing and growing turkish challenges, which are also an obstacle to the implementation of European goals for de-dependence on Russian energy, and of course, he also referred to Turkey’s continued attitude, with which it undermines the sanctions applied by the EU.
