Athens “keeps” all scenarios open to the intensifying Turkish provocation, planning and adjusting – as and when necessary – its next moves both at the diplomatic level and on the field.

In this environment and under the shadow of the new Turkish challenges and with the revival of the outlawed Turkish-Libyan memorandum, the Governmental National Security Council (KYSEA) is meeting today at 12 noon under the Prime Minister, where it is expected that all the moves of both Ankara and but at the same time the planning and readiness of the Greek side for a decisive and effective reaction to any possible eventuality, emanating from the east.

Decoding Turkish intentions according to experts and analysts becomes even more difficult and complicated as the impasses of the Turkish leadership increase and become more suffocating. A fact that prompts Athens to have already drawn up plans for all scenarios and for any threat even the most extreme, whether of a hybrid nature or in the field, from the side of Ankara.

“We are not afraid of anything, we must always weigh the situation soberly, prudently and calmly” emphasized the government representative, who in all tones has declared that Greece is fully prepared to respond effectively and decisively to any challenge.

During the KYSEA meeting the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias, is expected to give an update on the talks he had on Sunday in Cairo with his Egyptian counterpart, as well as on all the diplomatic contacts that have intensified again after Ankara’s new moves to revive the outlawed Turkish-Libyan memorandum.

A move that rekindled internally the possibility of exercising our right and expanding the territorial waters of Greece south of Crete. A “paper” that Greece always keeps active in its hands based on International Law but for the time being based on the government representative it does not intend to “exploit”. “The country obviously never renounces its sovereign rights that derive from International Law, but these are very serious cases that the Greek government, Mitsotakis, has proven, our government is the first to increase the territory and territorial waters .

We are not afraid of anything, we must always weigh the scene with prudence, prudence and composure. We are not giving up any of our rights, but there is no immediate planning at the moment,” clarified Mr. Economou.

At this moment, based on Turkey’s aspirations with the Turkish-Libyan memorandum, the most dangerous scenario is a practical questioning of Greece’s sovereign rights by sending a research vessel to the south of Crete, in the southwestern part of the Greek continental shelf, which according to the Convention of the United of Nations on the Law of the Sea in the absence of bilateral agreement is set at the median line. In this scenario, Athens will react with the immediate presence of Navy ships.

In the other scenario, that of the attempted investigations at a point that is considered to question or violate the Greek-Egyptian EEZ, the information states that the Egyptian Foreign Minister assured Nikos Dendias during their cooperation in Cairo, that there will be a strong presence of Egyptian warships, sending Ankara a clear message of strength and determination against its illegal pursuits.

Immigration is also on the agenda

And while one “eye” of the Greek leadership is directed to the south of Crete, the other is firmly oriented to the country’s eastern borders, land and sea, as long as Turkey persists in its attempt to instrumentalize immigration.

According to information, the Minister of Immigration, Notis Mitarakis, during the meeting of the KYSEA will focus on the field of the hybrid information war that seems to be in progress by the traffickers’ rings and the Turkish propaganda against the Greek authorities, in order to examine new shielding measures against in the phenomenon, which has recently been heating up in the Aegean. At the same time, the Minister of Citizen Protection, Takis Theodorikakos, is expected to present the technical details for the further expansion of the fence in Evros.
