Erdogan Challenges Again: The Borders of Our Hearts Span Three Continents and Seven Seasons

by

The F-16 issue has been widely reported in the Turkish media, with commentators reporting that a first step has been taken towards acquiring them from the US.

The withdrawal from the US Senate Defense Budget Bill (NDAA) of the Menendez Amendments, which imposed conditions on Turkey for the purchase and upgrade of F-16s, became a topic in the Turkish media.

The Turkish media commented that a step was takenbut there are more things that need to be done, the SKAI correspondent reported from Istanbul, Manolis Kostidis noting that for the first time the USA is sending a message of rapprochement to Turkey

The Turkish media reported that the Senate and House of Representatives negotiations are now starting, where the terms for the F-16s remain.

Journalist Hulki Cevizoglu reported on CNN: “As soon as we heard the news, we got the impression that the conditions for the sale of the F-16s were withdrawn as if it passed the Senate. But now we understand that in January, today is October 11, that is, in 2.5 – 3 months from now, this government proposal will come to the Senate. But also US President Biden in his meetings with Erdogan said ‘OK, I’ll give it my all, I’ll do what I can, but there’s the Senate’. Now there is the Senate again. That was not approved there.”

Political analyst Hasan Basri Yalcin commented: “Now the US has moved to the ‘okay we’ll give you the fighters’ phase. He took a step back, but that does not mean that these fighters will actually be delivered to Turkey one day. Everything is to delay. They put up legal, technical obstacles. They find justification in everything.”

Erdogan: “Turkey does not consist of the borders that appear on the maps!”

New incendiary statements from the Turkish president, who said that Turkey does not consist of borders that appear on maps, but “the borders of our hearts span three continents and seven seasons.”

He also said that “Aristotle and Homer and their cities are the traces of our history as well as of humanity”.

Erdogan said characteristically: “Like all the points of Anatolia, every point of the Dardanelles is adorned with the precious traces of the history of humanity and our history. Among them are the city of Aristotle, Assos and the city of Homer, Troy. Turkey is not only a country consisting of the borders shown on maps.

The borders of our heart are wide, as described by our ancestors as ‘three continents, seven seasons’. We are building the great and strong Turkey for all our friends who have turned their eyes and hearts to us, for all the victims and all the oppressed”.

Cavusoglu: Greece does not want peace

Yesterday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mevlut Cavusoglu, claimed that Greece is militarizing the islands, so it does not want peacebut conflict.

“Since he’s sending weapons to the islands, there has to be an answer to that. “One night suddenly” applies, this is Turkey’s position for its national interests,” said the Turkish Foreign Minister.

Cavusoglu said yesterday: “Our president has already said that anyone who poses a threat to Turkey and anyone who attacks Turkey, ‘overnight suddenly…’ Greece, one or the other, it doesn’t matter. We say it clearly. Under what conditions. Either Greece is affected or not. It does not matter whether the supporters of terrorism are affected or not. This is Turkey’s position. When we have to do this for our national interests and the survival of Turkey.”

“We say that Greece is violating the agreements signed for peace. The Peace Treaty of Lausanne, the Peace Treaty of Paris… What is the purpose of these agreements? To establish peace. That is the term and the reason why these agreements say, ‘you cannot militarize the islands’. So this is an agreement that was signed for peace. For the sake of peace, don’t bring weapons here, brother. But Greece brings them. What does this mean; It means I don’t want peace, I want conflict. There has to be an answer to that.”

Threats from Bakhceli

Devlet Bakhceli, Erdogan’s government partner, is threatening to turn off the natural gas tap to Greece. The gas pipeline runs through us. Greece should stop pointing the finger at Turkey”
