The importance of maintaining open channels of communication and meetings between the two sides, and the need to create a climate of stability in the region, based on International Law and the rules of good neighborliness, was underlined in the meeting held by the Minister of National Defense Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos with the Minister of Defense of Turkey, Mr. Hulusi Akar, today Thursday, October 13, 2022, on the sidelines of the NATO Defense Ministers’ Summit in Brussels.

Panagiotopoulos and L. Austin discussed continued defense cooperation and the importance of regional stability

The “continued defense cooperation and the importance of regional stability” were discussed by the Minister of Defense, Nikos Panagiotopoulos, with his American counterpart, Lloyd Austin, according to a tweet by the latter.

In particular, Mr. Lloyd noted: “I met today with Greek Defense Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos to discuss continued defense cooperation and the importance of regional stability.”

It is noted that Mr. Panagiotopoulos met yesterday with the Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg at the headquarters of the Alliance in Brussels on the sidelines of the Summit of the competent ministers.

The meeting lasted 22 minutes and at issues related to security and peace were found on the table.

According to government sources, Mr. Panagiotopoulos emphasized Greece’s assistance in the Ukraine war and condemned any revisionism that causes destabilization in Europe.

Regarding a possible meeting between the Greek Minister and his Turkish counterpart, Hulusi Akar, information indicates that there is an intention from the Turkish side, however the Greek side has not yet confirmed.
