The Chancellor of the Exchequer of the United Kingdom, Quasi Kwarteng said that both he and Prime Minister Liz Truss would be in their posts a month from now, amid intense criticism from the opposition and Conservative MPs over their economic policies.

“Absolutely, 100%. I’m not going anywhere,” Mr. Kwarteng answered a related question during an interview from Washington, which he is visiting.

Mr Kwarteng was also pressed about reports that Ms Truss is actively considering further cancellations of tax cuts announced in the mini-budget at the end of September.

Lawmakers from the ruling party, the main opposition, think tanks, economic analysts and the IMF have criticized the government for the uncosted tax cuts that have rattled markets and are calling for at least some of the measures to be reversed.

The British minister has repeatedly avoided assuring that more measures will not be rolled back after the scrapping of the top 45% income tax rate, saying simply that the government is “absolutely focused on delivering the growth plan”.

Labor Minister Chloe Smith avoided the same question, saying it was a matter for the Finance Minister.

According to British media, Ms Truss is holding meetings in Downing Street with aides to consider what measures can be overturned. Most analyzes refer to the possibility of overturning the decision not to increase the corporate tax rate from 19% to 25% next April.

The Scottish National Party SNP said Conservative MPs should oust Ms Truss if she did not reverse her economic measures, while the Lib Dems said Kwasi Kwarteng should “resign or be sacked”.
