The first meeting with his new British counterpart, James Cleverly, was held at the Foreign Office by the Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias.
As Mr. Dendias stated shortly before the meeting, the focus of the visit is the bilateral cooperation framework and the execution of the strategic agreement he had signed with the current Prime Minister Liz Truss when she was Minister of Foreign Affairs.
“From there I will be able to inform Mr. Cleverly about the situation in the eastern Mediterranean, about Turkish provocation and delinquency, about the issues created by the invalid Turkish-Libyan memorandum and about the situation in the western Balkans,” said the Mr. Dendias and continued:
“As always, we will jointly make an analysis on the Cyprus issue, on the possibility that a process of resolving the Cyprus issue can finally be started. The United Kingdom is an important country for us, a strategic and historical friend of Greece and for the Greek government, the Mitsotakis government, it is very important that the United Kingdom has a complete picture of Greek positions.”
The developments in Ukraine, as well as energy issues were also on the agenda of the meeting.
On Twitter, Mr Cleverley said he was delighted to welcome Mr Dendias and highlighted the discussion of “continued solidarity in the face of Russia’s brutal aggression in Ukraine”.
He added that they touched on the mutual commitment to stability and security in the western Balkans and the eastern Mediterranean.
