Tsipras for raping a 12-year-old girl: We have a collective responsibility because we did not protect her as a society

by

“In recent years, the State seems to be more preoccupied with human trafficking than protecting them,” says the president of SYRIZA

“The crucial thing is to be able to see, understand and take all the necessary measures so that the same thing does not happen again with another girl or boy, in another neighborhood of the city or in the house next to us” emphasizes Alexis Tsipras in his article in the “Newspaper of Editors” about the tragedy of the twelve-year-old girl in Colonos.

The president of SYRIZA PS states that “the victim, the perpetrator, the police, the Justice, have their place in this dark table. But it is not enough to dwell on a superficial glance, however surprised and justifiably angry it may be.’ He notes that “the girl from Colonos is our child. And we have a collective responsibility because we were not able as a society to protect it.”

He mentions in particular that “in recent years the State seems to be more preoccupied with human trafficking than with their protection”, adding that minors work in harsh conditions, households are given over to the despair of poverty. In addition, he emphasizes, “social support and child protection services are from anemic to non-existent”. “Structures under disintegration how to deal effectively with social disintegration?” he asks.

“No possibility, often no disposition, to see, to understand, to help, so that misery does not at least lead to crime,” he continues, noting that “the welfare state has been officially declared an unnecessary luxury, an enemy of development, a breeding ground for laziness.” .

Mr. Tsipras emphasizes that “the worst thing, perhaps of all” is that “from the state, from power, a climate of barbarism and moral degradation emanates”, mentioning more specifically that “from their actions it emanates and is taken over by a party of society as a normality the protection of the consul, the thief who wears a suit, the rapist, even the rapist, if he has the right friends, if he belongs to the few and chosen, if he has bases in power, or exercises power”.

“Their own children”, he adds, “have every possibility of access to the public and its funds. Every possibility of good studies, well-paid jobs and a future based on the present of their parents”, while “the others, the children of an inferior God, especially those who belong to the poorest strata, are essentially left to their own devices” and “at best case they are intended for the army of underpaid work and unemployment”.

The president of SYRIZA notes that “all the elements of this gloomy situation co-exist in the drama of Colonos”. “The cordon of destitution and the perpetrator who has been directly and in various ways entrusted with power in the neighborhood. Because he has edges in the local police department, because he is a local party leader, because he holds a big cross as a parish commissioner,” he says.

In addition to these, he continues, “there is also the complete absence of social assistance. Even the indifference of despair and “nothing can be done” of a part of society, which now… is falling from the clouds. And that her point of view and attitude to life is reproduced and reinforced by the attitude of the majority of the media, the attitude of the police, and even the judiciary”.

The leader of the official opposition notes that “this social swamp is next, like every swamp, to produce its reptiles” and underlines that “all those involved in this criminal abuse of a child must of course be punished and punished exemplary”. He points out that this swamp must be drained, “starting with the welfare state, which must begin with the protection, education, organization of the free and creative future for the most beautiful, hopeful, bright, but also vulnerable, part of society : Of our children. Of all the children.”

As a postscript, Alexis Tsipras notes that “SYRIZA-PS, the sensitive citizens, should not and cannot wait any longer. Nor is it enough to simply denounce the conscious deforestation of social structures by the government.” He emphasizes that “solidarity in the coming difficult winter must permeate the social body and it is also our duty”.

“No family, especially no child, should be left alone in the difficult conditions we live in and in the more difficult ones perhaps to come”, he says and concludes by underlining: “We have no right to write off the responsibilities of those who turn our society into a quagmire. But neither do we have the right not to assume our own responsibilities. As the Left and the large and inter-party solidarity faction always did during the difficult years”.
