Theodorikakos’ harsh response to Soilos from the Berlin Summit: “The continuous exploitation of immigrants from Turkey is barbaric”

The Greek minister informed his counterparts at length about the prevailing conditions on the EU’s European border with Turkey on the Evros.

Her provocative and continuous instrumentalization of immigrants from Turkey complained today Minister of Citizen Protection, Takis Theodorikakosat the Meeting of Interior Ministers of the “Berlin Process for the Western Balkans”, taking place in the German capital.

The Greek minister informed his counterparts at length about the prevailing conditions at the EU’s European border with Turkey on the Evros, while he also referred to the sad incident with the 92 migrants, whom the Turkish gendarmerie took naked and injured to the Greek bank of the river.

At the same time, he assured the European officials that Greece has taken all the necessary measures for the effective guarding of the land and sea borders of the EU. with Turkey.

Leaving the Synod, Mr. Theodorikakos made the following statement:

“Greece is participating in the Ministerial Summit in the Berlin Process for the Western Balkans, where the problem of illegal immigration is a central topic of the agenda. We are in close cooperation with the neighboring states in the Western Balkans, whose accession to the European Union we support, and we have close and creative cooperation on all matters of policing and dealing with illegal immigration.

However, overall the problem of illegal immigration is huge for the whole of Europe and tackling it requires strengthening the guarding of the European Union’s external borders.

Greece effectively guards our country’s borders with Turkey and on the Evros and the Aegean Sea. Borders that are also the external borders of the European Union with Turkey. And this is against the continuous, provocative instrumentalization of illegal immigrants by the Turkish leadership, which sometimes behaves in an absolutely inhumane and barbaric manner, as was demonstrably the case in the recent incident with the 92 immigrants in Evros, whom the Turkish military gendarmerie drove away naked and injured on the borders of Greece and Turkey.

I believe that Europe must show its solidarity in practice by strengthening Frontex, clearly stating its position on the facts and strengthening the structures to prevent illegal immigration, including financial support for the fence being built on the border between Greece and Turkey along the river Evros”.
