Soltz’s message after leaving Athens: Energy prices must fall

by

“We are working together with the Greek prime minister in solidarity,” emphasized Chancellor Olaf Soltz

A message that energy prices must fall was sent by Olaf Solz leaving Athens after the meetings he had with him Kyriakos Mitsotakis. Germany appears to be reacting to the gas cap plan, with relevant ministers expected to agree on a concrete plan on November 24.

“We are working together with the Greek Prime Minister in solidarity,” Mr. Soltz tweeted:

“We want to be less dependent on energy imports. We are working together with the Greek Prime Minister in solidarity. One goal is the massive expansion of renewable energy sources. But it is also clear that prices must fall. Let’s face it together in the EU.”

However, progress seems to be made in reaching an agreement to deal with the energy crisis and high energy prices in Europe, based on the statements of the prime minister and the German chancellor.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasized that the disagreements of the member states on the energy crisis must be resolved at the upcoming session of the energy ministers of Europeunderlining that this issue should not be referred again at the level of heads of state to a new Summit.

“And I think the fact that we’re having this conversation about imposing a regulatory intervention has helped prices come down a lot over the last month. And hopefully, I’m not going to say I’m sure, but it would be our failure—and we’ve discussed that in the Council – if the issue comes back to us. We don’t want the issue to come back to the heads of state and government at the level of the European Council. We want it to be resolved at the level of Ministers. And there is a possibility that it can be resolved at the level of Ministers,” he said characteristically.
