The above development is due to the intervention of Gabon, the country holding the Presidency of the Security Council, with which bilateral relations have developed significantly in recent months and especially after the three meetings of the Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias with his Gabonese counterpart.

Greece participated, through its Permanent Representative Maria Theofilis, in the extraordinary closed meeting of the UN Security Council on the humanitarian situation in Ukraine that took place a few days ago.

It is noted that several EU Member States had requested their participation in this meeting, but in the end, apart from Greece, only Germany, Poland and Slovakia were accepted (besides France, which is a permanent member).

The above development is due to the intervention of Gabon, the country holding the Presidency of the Security Council, with which bilateral relations have developed significantly in recent months and especially after the three meetings of the Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias with his Gabonese counterpart.

During the discussion, the Greek Permanent Representative referred to the recent visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs to Kyiv, the importance Greece attaches to the protection of the Greek community in Ukraine, the protection of the cultural heritage of Odessa, as well as the proposal to participate in the reconstruction of Mariupol .

Finally, he emphasized that Greece contributes to the transportation of grain from Ukraine, as well as to its distribution in Africa through the contribution to the rehabilitation of African port facilities.

It is noted in this regard that Greece finances the reconstruction of the port of Benghazi, a program of the World Food Programme.
