SYRIZA: Theft of 1.8 billion euros from consumers for the sake of the energy cartel

What S. Famellos and Peti Perkas state in their joint statement after the government’s announcements on the taxation of the surplus profits of power producers

For stealing 1.8 billion euros from consumers “for the sake of the energy cartel”, SYRIZA MPs say in their joint statement Socrates Famellos and Peti Perkas, talking at the same time about “government mockery with the super profits of power producers” and end up calling for immediate elections.

Their statement follows:

Eight months were finally needed by the Mitsotakis government to reduce, below all expectations, the calculation of the surplus profits of the power producers from 2.2 billion euros to just 415 million euros. Since last March, when Mr. Mitsotakis was forced in the Parliament to commit to the taxation of surplus profits by 90%, until today the government has even passed legislation to reduce surplus profits. And he comes today to announce that he will finally recover only 373.55 million euros!
It seems that the audacity of the government, which continues steadily to fool consumers for a year and a half, promising again to hand out crumbs, compared to the billions of euros of unacceptable, especially in the midst of the extreme accuracy crisis, super profits of the energy companies companies.
The government is congratulating itself because it is not fulfilling its commitments. But the only commitment that the government of Mr. Mitsotakis keeps is to protect the surplus profits of the few power producers that he makes sure to fall into the “soft”, while at the same time continuing to subsidize precision and profiteering with citizens’ money. Because, already after August, a new generation of super profits, over 1 billion euros, is in the coffers of the energy providers and the government, again after the issue was raised by SYRIZA-PS, announces retroactive taxation.
SYRIZA-PS, based on indisputable data from RAE and ADMIE, publicly presented the calculation of the surplus profits of power producers for the period July 2021-June 2022, amounting to 2.2 billion euros. Today’s government announcement means that €1.8 billion of consumer, household and business money is becoming a government gift to the electricity cartel. And this cannot be tolerated. Elections now for the people to send them back the bill.
