Alexis Tsipras: Mitsotakis should stop hiding about the surveillance, give immediate answers

Alexis Tsipras made a statement on the occasion of the scandal of surveillance by the “illegal” prerdator software, who called on the prime minister to “stop hiding and give immediate answers”.

At the same time, the president of SYRIZA requested “four minimum actions for the smooth conduct of the next elections”.

“Mr. Mitsotakis once again hid like an ostrich for the illegal surveillance scandal.

He did not come to answer the Parliament, he hid from the European Parliament’s inquiry committee, just as he hid from the Greek Parliament the natural perpetrators of the crime.

He chooses the darkness of the cover-up, despite the fact that constantly new revelations see the light of day about surveillance of his political opponents, journalists and even his ministers, who were illegally monitored either through official links from the EYP or through the illegal prerdator software or a combination.

But the most important thing is that even though he chooses the dark, the tracking malware is still running and no one is taking responsibility to disable it.

But the country cannot be led to elections under this condition.

We call on all the local political forces to take a stand

Above all, however, we call on Mr. Mitsotakis to assume the responsibilities assigned to him, so that the institutional and political crisis he caused does not turn into a major state crisis of confidence in the democratic acquis in our country.

And for this reason, we call on him to adopt a minimal framework of actions that will restore, at least partially, democratic normality and ensure the democratic and fair conduct of the next elections.

First of all, we call on him to immediately terminate the operation of the malicious software and institute a universal ban on its marketing by companies in our country.

Secondly, to immediately replace the EYP commander Mr. Demiris with a person of general acceptance.

Thirdly, to request from the Supreme Judicial Council the immediate replacement of the prosecutor responsible for the EYP, Ms. Vlacho, who bears huge responsibilities for the diversion.

Finally, to commit that with the official start of the pre-election period, an acting Minister of Citizen Protection will be appointed by cross-party consensus, who will of course have the competence of the EYP and all the services of the Greek police that have monitoring systems, throughout the pre-election period period.

It is, I repeat, about the minimum conditions and guarantees for the smooth conduct of the upcoming elections and the restoration of elementary trust in the political system.
