Turkey is once again completely distorting reality in order to support its unilateral and unfounded complaints, emphasizes the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Alexander Papaioannou responding to a provocative announcement by the Turkish Foreign Ministry about the Greek-Egyptian agreement.
“In this case, the Turkish side is trying to equalize a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding, which was concluded with full respect for International Law and International norms with non-existent and illegal unilateral accusationsthat violate basic concepts of International Law”, Athens clarifies.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reminds that Turkey “instrumentalizes the immigrantputting human lives at risk every day, falsely accuses our country, which is exactly making every possible effort to protect life at sea.”
The announcement of the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
“In response to a journalist’s question regarding the statement of the Spokesperson of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Greece and Egypt regarding search and rescue areas, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Alexandros Papaioannou, pointed out the following:
“Turkey once again completely distorts reality in order to support its unilateral and unfounded complaints.
“In this case, the Turkish side is trying to equate a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding, which was concluded with full respect for International Law and International norms, with its non-existent and illegal unilateral objections that violate basic concepts of International Law.
“At the same time, at the moment in which it uses immigration as a tool, putting human lives in danger every day, it falsely accuses our country, which is exactly making every possible effort to protect life at sea.
“Yesterday’s signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with Egypt is precisely part of this effort by Greece, as well as by Egypt.
“We reject the baseless Turkish objections in their entirety.”
