Tsipras from Pella: Stop the looting of public wealth

“Let’s bring justice back to the place,” said SYRIZA president Alexis Tsipras to farmers in Pella

“With a plan and proposals, we should face the enormous accuracy crisis, put an end to the looting of public wealth and bring justice back to the place,” stressed the Alexis Tsipras speaking to the farmers of Pella.

“We must respond to existential anxiety with a plan, with proposals. Not with exaggerated shouts. Miracles don’t happen. What is being done is to stop this remula. Let’s stop this situation which is unprecedented for the place. To stop the looting of public wealth. To bring back justice and with a plan to create infrastructure for the weak, for the producers, for the middle class that has been plundered these three years by the mechanism of precision and filthy lucre” underlined Alexis Tsipras.

As he explained, “today we are in a state of emergency and we are dealing with the state of emergency with extraordinary measures. There is no other way”. The president of SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance mentioned that a year ago he went out in public and talked about a coming tsunami. “Remember the nonsense that said that the increases in electricity will be 2, 3 and 4 euros and that we will not have any problem with accuracy? We could see a tsunami coming. And we said, now reduce the fuel tax to the lowest level. Abolish the EFFK for the farmer and the producer. To be able not to pay social security tax. Tell me, in this country only the shipowners have tax-free oil. Farmers and producers cannot. In crisis conditions, it cannot be done otherwise, we say. And at the same time we said, cut VAT on food so that the average household can breathe and tax the super profits of the energy companies.”

“The government decided to do the exact opposite” as he said and noted that “at this moment due to the government’s choices that led to a series of negative firsts among all EU countries an unprecedented redistribution of wealth is taking place in Greece”.

“There is an unprecedented redistribution of income from the many to the few. From the middle and the poor to a few and powerful who see their profits multiply and get dizzy from the super profits, while the average family, the world of production, wage labor is in a state of despair” pointed out Al. Tsipras.

“The emergency measures that must be taken immediately and for as long as the crisis lasts have to do with stopping this redistribution process. That is, the reduction of VAT. With terrifying accuracy, state revenues increase. It takes it from all of us at the supermarket and then gives some subsidies to pay the energy swindlers. Pay the bills to keep the scam machine intact. He takes it from the many to give it to the few,” he emphasized.

“This mechanism can only be broken with political will. And political will is needed. I will not promise you that I will perform miracles because we are not miracle workers. What we can promise you is that we will bring back to the place what has been lost in the last three years. Wich one; Justice. There is no justice. When there is no justice, you cannot face any crisis, any difficulty,” said the leader of the official opposition.

Focusing on the extreme situations faced by farmers and those involved in primary production and processing, Alexis Tsipras spoke of an existential problem.

“The big problem is the huge difference in the price of products from the field to what the consumer sees on the shelf. According to Eurostat, Greece has a negative lead here as well. The country with lower wages, with the lowest purchasing power, with a higher price of electricity and the highest gap between the price of the agricultural product in the field compared to the one we find on the shelf. On average, it is 300%,” he emphasized.

“Throughout the country those who cultivate the land, those who make a living from the primary sector are facing an existential problem. Whether they will continue to practice this profession or whether they will leave the fields fallow and the tree crops unharvested. This is the reality today. Because it doesn’t come out” pointed out its president SYRIZA – PS.

“When production costs have tripled because the price of energy has gone to God. When there is no provision to deal with this. When we have almost quadrupling in fertilizers and agricultural supplies, when prices remain low the prices in the field. The equation doesn’t work,” he said and pointed out that our country must invest again in the primary production sector and in manufacturing. “Tourism and services are good. It is the steam engine of the Greek economy, but no economy can stand if it does not produce. No economy can stand unless it strengthens the primary sector of production and the people of production.”

Describing the measures to support the agricultural world, Alexis Tsipras proposed strengthening the role of cooperatives, changing the ELGA regulation, but also the issue of financial tools to support farmers and of course the resources of the Recovery Fund.

“It is many billions of euros and I am very afraid that this great hope, the Recovery Fund, has been attacked by the big blue locusts that attacked the public wealth during these three years in public organizations with the direct assignments, with the closed tenders, with the customer relations” he said.

“I asked for a special committee in the Parliament for the distribution of these funds. They refused. Because they want to proceed to absorb this money in directions that serve interests. In any case there is an issue of central planning. It is not possible for agricultural production to have such a small percentage of the fund’s resources. So it is our political will that one of the first options after the election of a progressive government will be the renegotiation and redistribution of the Recovery Fund resources in order to support agricultural production” stressed Alexis Tsipras.
