And the fact that today Greece has acquired a much stronger voice both in Europe and in relation to the USA is something that worries Turkey as well”, said Deputy Foreign Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, speaking today on the TV station’s “Mismatched” show SKAI and journalists Yiannis Dsounos and Christos Koutras, while regarding the elections he expressed the certainty that New Democracy will achieve the goal of self-reliance.
Mr. Varvitsiotis reiterated that the government is prepared for all eventualities, noting that the response of the international factor, both from the EU and the US side, is “monobloc” in the face of Turkish provocation, as he characteristically said. And he added that the fact that Greek-Turkish relations have become the subject of the pre-election campaign in Turkey does not help de-escalation.
Speaking about the agreement with Egypt to welcome 5,000 land workers, the Deputy Minister commented that “we want to respond to the request of the agricultural world” for labor, estimating that all the ratification procedures of the agreement will be completed by the beginning of next year , so that it can be implemented ahead of the spring season. He noted that employers should understand that we are not “providing them with workers for black and underpaid work, but they should be paid decently”, as “we cannot go back to the Manolada era”. And he mentioned that the government is considering the possibility of drawing up similar agreements with other countries in our neighborhood as well as with some further away, possibly for a longer period of time.
Finally, when asked about the elections, Mr. Varvitsiotis expressed the certainty that the New Democracy will conquer self-reliance, transferring the climate he receives from the neighborhoods of Western Athens, where he is in politics, and that there is no corresponding climate of rallying of SYRIZA supporters.
