In video conference of the Communist and Labor Parties of the European Communist Initiative for the “100 years of the founding of the USSR”, which will be completed on December 30, the Secretary General of the Central Committee of the KKE spoke today, Dimitris Koutsoubas. At the beginning of his presentation, Mr. Koutsoubas said that we must approach these 100 years that have passed, answering at the same time some specific critical questions:
“First: Did the establishment of the USSR after the Great October Socialist Revolution have a positive or negative effect on the peoples and ethnicities of the Soviet Union itself, but also on the peoples of the whole world?
Second: Was this whole course upward, positive in all its aspects, without mistakes, weaknesses, failures, setbacks? If not, where are these negatives due to, where are they located, why were they caused: Are these what influenced and ultimately led to the dissolution of the USSR, the overthrow of the socialist system?
Third: Did the world get better or worse after the breakup of the USSR? Were the peoples of the world benefited or harmed by this first great historical retreat of humanity, which from a “raid to heaven” turned into a tragic descent into the “darkness of Hades”?
“The revolution of 1917 was the starting point of one of the greatest achievements of civilization in the history of humanity, the abolition of the exploitation of man by man” noted D. Koutsoubas and underlined: “Overall, these 69 years of the existence of the USSR, despite whatever the problems, the socialist system proved the superiority of socialism over capitalism, the enormous advantages it provides for the work and life of the workers.”
As he pointed out, among other things, “bourgeois and opportunist propaganda, speaking of undemocratic and illiberal regimes, projects the concepts of ‘democracy’ and ‘freedom’ with their bourgeois content: It identifies democracy with bourgeois parliamentarism, freedom with bourgeois individualism and individual capitalist property. However, the real content of freedom and democracy in capitalism is the economic coercion of wage slavery and the dictatorship of capital in general in society and especially in capitalist enterprises.
D. Koutsoubas, referred to the goals and successes of the first period of socialist construction, 1917-1940, noting that “after World War II and the post-war recovery, socialist construction entered a new phase. The Party was faced with new demands and challenges. The 20th Congress of the KKSE (1956) stands out as a turning point, because it adopted a series of opportunistic positions on the issues of the economy, the strategy of the communist movement and international relations.”
Citing the main characteristics of this period, he noted that “the theoretical slide and the corresponding retreat policy in the USSR came to a new phase when the need to deepen socialist relations was ripe. In the 1980s, opportunism, with perestroika, culminated in a treacherous, counter-revolutionary force.”
He referred to the content of the “unified process of socialist construction, which begins with the seizure of power by the working class”, also noting that: “the socialist course includes the possibility of reversing it and regressing towards capitalism. Regression is not an unprecedented phenomenon in social development and in any case it is a temporary phenomenon in its history. It is an indisputable fact that no socio-economic system was established once and for all in History.”
D. Koutsoubas said that “socialization in socialism, like all the organization of the economy and society, is carried out through the state of the working class, under the guidance of the Communist Party, which is based on the mobilization of the working masses, on workers’ control. ».
Explaining the reasons, he said that “from a period onwards, the Party gradually lost its revolutionary leadership character and thus it became possible for counter-revolutionary forces to dominate the Party and power” and added:
“We characterize the developments of 1989-1991 as a victory of the counter-revolution. It is no coincidence, after all, that these developments were supported by the international reaction, that socialist construction, especially in the period of the elimination of capitalist relations and the establishment of socialism, up to World War II, gathers the ideological and political fire of international imperialism. ».
“The counter-revolution in the USSR did not come from imperialist military intervention, but from within and from above, as a result of the opportunistic mutation of the KK and the corresponding political direction of Soviet power. We certainly do not underestimate the long-term influence and the multifaceted intervention of imperialism in the development of opportunism and its evolution into a counter-revolutionary force,” he stressed.
As he stated, among other things, afterwards “our Party has taken its own responsibilities for the wrong assessments and the theoretical inadequacy of understanding in depth in time all these developments. The critical treatment of the KKE’s attitude towards socialist construction in no way detracts from the fact that our Party, conscious of its international character, throughout its course, defended the process of building socialism-communism in the 20th century, even with the lives of thousands of its members and executives. It was and is a conscious choice of our Party to militantly defend the offer of socialism in the 20th century.”
He also pointed out that “the KKE did not side with these forces, which, coming from the communist movement, in the name of criticizing the USSR and other countries, were led to nihilism, to the denial of their socialist character, to the adoption of propaganda of imperialism, nor did he revise the defense stance, despite its weaknesses.”
“The tragedy experienced by the peoples of the former USSR but also the peoples of the whole world is unprecedented, after the dissolution of the USSR and the overthrow of the socialist system in 1991 until today, in 2022″ said D. Koutsoubas, and underlined: ” Those who expected or calculated an improvement in the international situation, a new period of prosperity for the peoples in the various countries of the world and on all continents, were bitterly disproved.”
“The capitalists had a plan. The civil staffs systematically worked to restore barbarism through the overthrow of socialism and the dissolution of the USSR. Their propaganda machine seduced pure people who believed in something more beautiful.
Many and many were seduced. It is time for them to see now, how and who dug the pit of the people of toil, of progress, of the communists, for humanity to reach its prehistoric moments again. All of them, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the USSR which we remember and honor this year, perhaps it is time for them to draw substantial conclusions and with a hand on their heart and a clearer mind to join the great army of the world revolution” he emphasized, concluding with his introduction by the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the KKE.
