The Creative Employment Centers for people with disabilities, which are established in Greek society as one of the main institutions of deinstitutionalization of people with disabilities, was mentioned by the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Domna Michailidou, during her speech at the opening of the KDAP AmaA ” Nicodemus Graikos”.

According to the deputy minister, the important thing is that, for people with disabilities, these structures are spaces for socialization, where they have the opportunity to spend their time creatively, discover their talents and cultivate skills, according to their own their needs and interests.

Mrs. Michailidou referred to the active policies of the government, which, 3.5 years ago, as she claimed, protect the rights of people with disabilities and strengthen their independent living.

In particular, as indicated in a statement by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, it was stated:

– Doubling the number of people with disabilities who participate in KDAP.

– In the doubling of Supported Living Housing, where people with disabilities, chronically ill and finally needy, uninsured people, now have the possibility to leave the institutions and live with dignity in family-type structures.

– In the implementation of the Personal Assistant service, which starts for the first time in Greece.

– In the Digital Disability Card, which enables and facilitates the daily life of 500,000 people with disabilities.

– In the implementation of accessibility projects in residences, workplaces and public social services.

– In the implementation of the pilot program of supported employment, which concerns 200 people who are on the autism spectrum.

The Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Domna Michailidou, said: “As a state, but also as a society, we have the responsibility to create an inclusive society that accommodates all of us. That is why, after all, for 3.5 years now we have been working intensively and we are fully aware of our responsibilities and obligations, because for us the equal participation of people with disabilities in the community, the recognition and respect of their diversity, as well as the fair and equal participation in education and the labor market, are our priorities. That is why we are constantly creating the conditions to prevent institutionalization. We don’t leave anyone behind.”
