The statement of the president of PASOK on the occasion of the World Day Against Genocide

“We owe it to history and humanity to keep the memory alive and to fight for the international recognition of the Genocide of Asia Minor and Pontic Hellenism,” said the president of PASOK-KINAL, Nikos Androulakis, on the occasion of World Genocide Day.

His statement in detail:

“Today’s World Day Against Genocide is even more important this year, as it marks 100 years since the Asia Minor Catastrophe, which was the most dramatic end to the pre-eternal presence of Hellenism on the Asia Minor shores.

There is, therefore, an even greater need to honor today the victims of the Genocides of Asia Minor and Pontic Hellenism, and I want to thank the “Nikos Kapetanidis” Action Association for its initiative today.

The aim of recognizing and commemorating a Genocide is not to rekindle old conflicts between peoples and countries.

On the contrary, only the acceptance of historical reality, memory and condemnation will help us avoid the repetition of similar crimes against humanity in the future.

For this reason, we owe it to history and humanity to keep their memory alive and fight for their international recognition.

It is a national debt for which we should all work together to achieve it.”
