Michailidou: We are working intensively to ensure access everywhere for everyone

“For 3.5 years now, with actions and not words, we have been establishing and implementing actions, in order to facilitate the daily life of our fellow citizens with disabilities” said the Deputy Minister of Labor

The Deputy Minister of Labor mentioned the accessibility issues faced by people with mobility and sensory disabilities in private buildings, public spaces and workplaces, as well as the actions implemented in the last 3.5 years, with the aim of ensuring access everywhere for everyone and Social Affairs, Domna Michailidou, during her speech at the “ACCESS EVERYWHERE” event, held at the Peace and Friendship Stadium.

In particular, as indicated in a statement by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, Mrs. Michailidou spoke:

– For the accessibility projects, concerning 4,000 private homes and 700 workplaces, where people with disabilities live or work. This is a pilot program, which concerns the facilitation of access to public buildings, workplaces and residences, where people with disabilities live.

– For the establishment of the Personal Assistant program, which immediately begins its pilot application and in 2024 will be implemented throughout the country.

– For the Digital Disability Card, launched for the first time in our country, with the aim of serving 500,000 citizens with disabilities every day.

– For the National Disability Portal and the creation of a Disability Register, as well as the digitization of the PES, through which the bureaucracy is dealt with and the disabled citizen is facilitated in his daily life, providing all the necessary services and information.

The Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Domna Michailidou stated: “For 3.5 years now, with actions and not words, we have been establishing and implementing actions, in order to facilitate the daily life of our fellow citizens with disabilities. With small, but also larger interventions, we constantly ensure their access to more spaces. Our aim is for all people with disabilities to have equal participation in society and the labor market. That is why, after all, we are working intensively to create an inclusive society, where every citizen will feel useful and will be able to develop their skills to the maximum extent. We respect the rights of every fellow citizen, leaving no one behind.”
